Fontenay-aux-Roses is a commune in the southwestern suburbs of Paris, France. It is located 8.6 km. (5.3 miles) from the center of Paris.
École Normale Supérieure was a girls school located in the area.
Fontenay includes Commissariat à l'énergie atomique where the Pile Zoé was activated.

The commune name originates from a local stream from a spring (fons, fontaine) in the hillside descending from the Châtillon plateau, with the addition ("of roses") added to distinguish this commun from numerous French communes named Fontenay.
