[edit] Background

Formed in by Stone and Broten in (or around) 1995, Fonda 500 have been releasing albums since 2000. One of the bands songs appeared on the soundtrack to British comedy Teachers on Channel Four Television. They have built up a cult following since 2000 chiefly through their live performances and their musical style, comparable to Black Sabbath jamming with the Beach Boys[citation needed]. The core pair are Simon Stone and Nicholas Broten. Their new album, 'Je m'appelle stereo', is released on their own label record mountain in June 2008.

[edit] Live Performances

Their live performances have included several motifs:

  • Simon at the front of the stage playing an unfeasibly small Casio keyboard mounted on a large light-box with a picture of a cute panda on it. Sometimes he climbs on top of the light-box and shouts.
  • Simon re-inventing the songs, apparently ad hoc, through contemporary changes to the lyrics and "beatboxing".
  • Simon wearing a woolly hat with ears resembling a panda.
  • between song banter, either between the band or to the audience.
  • the conga.
  • bum bouncing in the audience.
