[edit] Rivers

Are there any rivers in the Cape verde Islands?? What do the inhabitants do for water??

  • There are some rivers in the Cape Verde Islands, but droughts have been a recurring and deadly problem. In addition to streams, inhabitants use rainwater and there is a desalinisation plant. Warofdreams 16:49, 12 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Name

I read here that the island earned its name from an eruption in 1680. However, there is reference to Fogo burning "amidst an ocean of flying fishes" (which at the very least would seem to signify an island) in a madrigal by Thomas Weelkes, who died in 1623. I suppose that it could refer to another volcano, but it seemed like it fit perfectly until I saw the bit about the island earning its name in 1680. 128.151.139.39 (talk) 00:57, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
