Fodera is a noted American manufacturer of electric bass guitars. Fodera Basses are made in the Fodera Shop in Brooklyn, New York. Vinnie Fodera and Joey Lauricella started their own company around 1983 after dissolving their working relationship with Ken Smith basses. Fodera basses are known for extremely good craftsmanship, use of exotic woods and natural finishes, exclusively handmade instruments, and innovative pickup systems. Fodera, while not being famous for guitars, do produce a limited amount per year. Many do not realize that the first official Fodera instrument was indeed a guitar. Fodera Basses are often fairly expensive due to the materials and craftsmanship involved. Foderas are recognizable by the inlaid butterfly on the headstock of most of their models of Bass. Other innovative features include the then radical single cutaway design, ash neck and exposed dual coil pickups with wood covers.

Fodera basses evolved at a time when very few gifted craftsman turned their skill towards the problems that many bassists suffered with. Ergonomic, sonic and aesthetic issues where addressed by Fodera and the company soon found its products in high demand among professional bassists. High demand continues to this day, as noted by their backlogs of 2 years plus. Fodera basses are still rare, with less than 3000 pieces created over the past 25 years.

Series include: Monarch, Emperor, Emperor II, Imperial, Signature, BeezElite and NYC.
