[edit] Footnote3
There is a new proposal for autnumbered footnotes which probably obsoletes this template, please see Footnote3 consensus on the talk page is to take it in to use. Mozzerati 15:36, 2005 Feb 26 (UTC)
[edit] small
I think a problem with this template is that the line spacing gets irregular, that I attempted to solve with this. However, it was reverted with the comment: rvt. rmv small tags, which make it too small which I can't agree with. In good typography, sub- and superscripts are rendered smaller. /Tuomas 13:01, 2 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Normally automatically makes the text smaller. The solution used in Wikipedia:Footnote3 which provides automatically numbered footnotes is to use a square brace around the reference (like this ) which makes a big enough target for people with difficulties with small links. [edit] Span tag
I have encased the contents in a span tag, using a class called reference. For all those who don't want references, all that you need to do is add the following to your stylesheet:
.reference {
display: none ! important;
}

[edit] Deprecation?
It seems like this template continues to be useful for seperately numbered and collected notes, such as those found in tables. For instance, see Major film studio#Today's Big Six. Is that sort of usage worth clarifying in the usage page? jhawkinson 21:41, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
