Blocking 194.81.161.150

Thanks for soft-blocking rather than blocking every user from this IP. I'll ask the college's technical wizards to investigate who was responsible.

Re:Shreyasjoshis

thanks for the suggestion. I am new to editing here.

 ???

uhh hi this is wtf87 here. I don't know why but people say that i'm going around and vandalising articles. I'm not though ihaven't been on that long and i don't even know what those articles are. aparently someone was wtf87 before me and know i have to pay. :( --WTF87 11:45, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

I took a quick look and I don't see anything. Could you give me some specific examples? -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 01:39, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

WP:UAA report

Regarding your apprehension, I re-blocked since the only edit was vandalism anyway. Obviously up to no good. —Wknight94 (talk) 21:25, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Totally cool. Thanks! -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 21:26, 1 October 2007 (UTC)

Question

Is there a template I can use to suggest politely to new users that their user names are inappropriate? I checked over the template messages page and I didn't see anything there. Thanks. GreenJoe 00:21, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

There's {{uw-username}}. Or you can write a custom message. -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 00:23, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Thanks. GreenJoe 00:28, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Got a sec?

You around? ArielGold 04:08, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

O_O Yup. -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 04:09, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Okay, ran into this on RC Patrol. I reverted vandalism to Taylor Bradford, and then stayed around to place refs into citation templates, and add more. Following this, Kintetsubuffalo placed the {{notability}} tag on it even though I'd put 4 highly reputable reliable sources to the article that established his notability. I removed the tag, but Kintetsubuffalo replaced it, saying he's not notable because he never played. That may be true, but the article is about the person, and this person has 900+ Google news hits from the last 12 hours alone, thus, doesn't that automatically show he is notable, if not as a sports figure, he's certainly notable because he was murdered on a University campus. Now, the way I understand it, the subject (in this case, this person, not his "football career") is what is being established as notable, not his notability as a football player. Am I wrong? ArielGold 04:12, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Hmmm. It's a question of whether Taylor Bradford was independently notable despite being the victim of a crime. That seems to be the threshold for notability at AfDs that I've seen. (c.f. most of the victims of 9/11, etc.) The crime seems to be notable, having resulted in the cancellation of all classes at a University (I don't think this type of event has thankfully not yet become so commonplace so as to not be notable.) I'm not sure about the victim, though. I'd tend to say no, but this is one of those times where the line between news and encyclopedic gets blurred. I bet that, failing any major turns in the case, if an AfD were run in a few days the result would be a merge with University of Memphis. Anyway, that's just my opinion. -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 04:31, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Okay, so should the notability tag be placed? And would you copy your thoughts to the article's talk page, because I said I would request another opinion, just so I know for my own knowledge what to do in future issues like this. Thanks dear! ArielGold 04:33, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Will do. I'd leave the {{notability}} tag for now. More editors may wish to weigh in on that. Besides, it's not a tag for deletion by itself. And just to be clear, I wouldn't go AfDing or PRODing the article yet. I'd wait a few days and see what develops in the story. It could be that he was going to play in the upcoming game (not technically having played at the highest level, but I'd be willing to IAR it for that kind of thing). That said, a recent shooting here (albeit at a High School; see Jordan Manners) that got huge press coverage now redirects to the school. -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 04:39, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Oh, yeah I wasn't going to remove the tag, nor add any other tags, no worries. Honestly I just wanted to know because this was just another one of those things that I hadn't run into yet (someone only notable for their tragic death, sad...) and so I apologized on the talk page and suggested renaming or merging as you had mentioned. The notability policy should have a section on something like this... lol. ArielGold 04:42, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
No kidding! Then someone would complain about WP:CREEP... lol! I happened to be involved in improving the Jordan Manners article I mentioned, even though I thought it might get deleted at AfD. Even if the article has a short shelf life, it should at least look good... and you got it some nice refs for this one! Cheers! -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 04:53, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Well, I hope that the other editor isn't angry with me :( I was questioning the policy, not his actions (as I didn't revert him after he replaced the tag, obviously I respected the decision) but I guess re-reading what I wrote, I can see how it could come across wrong. ~*sigh*~ ArielGold 05:00, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
You weren't rude, just assertive. And polite. Don't worry about it! You have thousands of edits showing the kind of editor you are. I know some people get upset over things like that; I wouldn't though. Pour yourself a beverage (beer, wine or tea -- up to you) and keep on going! -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 05:05, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Image:grin.gif Anytime!! (I'm having a beer, btw.) -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 05:20, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Hey, I have an off the wall question

Can administrators look at an editors AIV/UAA submissions, and determine the % of those they submitted that were subsequently blocked/disallowed? Like, to see if they were valid submissions? ArielGold 05:44, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

We would have to do it manually, I'm afraid. However, User:Until(1 == 2) is working on such a tool for AIV. He could probably build one for UAA, too, if you asked. -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 05:47, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Hrmm, that will be cool when he gets it to work. I actually keep track of my own submissions, to see what happens with them, and I'm pretty sure I'm at 100% for AIV and maybe 99% for UAA. I actually can only thing of one name that was not subsequently blocked at UAA and it went to RFCN and was decided a name change was needed. It would be really a great tool though for RfAs I think, even if it was admin-only to view, it would be helpful stats. That's awesome that Until is working on that! ArielGold 05:52, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
I don't know if you saw, but he tested my AIV submissions and found a number of positives. I can probably account for most of the ones that didn't get blocked. I think Until is designing it with WP:RFA in mind. I can't remember where I came across his mention of it - WT:RFA, perhaps. If you watch UAA, you'll get a sense of who reports a lot and who doesn't. And I'd have to say that quantity probably leads to a loss of quality. It's easy to patrol the user logs and user creation logs looking for bad names. But it's not a great idea, though. I find that a lot of "promotional" names get reported that don't have any contribs. And these are all for obscure companies. Accounts without contribs don't matter that much (except for the blatant ones). The trolling names get boring quickly. Just look through my block log. I've been blocking a couple of the "My teacher" ones a day for the past week! -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 06:02, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
You could probably find out how an UAA/AIV submission turned out by either going to your own diff on the page (through Special:Contributions) and going forward a couple, or clicking on the page's history and using your browser's "Find" feature to look for your username (or the username of the person you reported). Neither will give you long-term stats, granted, but if you just want to find out a couple of times, it's easier and faster than waiting for someone to come up with a tool. ;) EVula // talk // // 06:06, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, I just keep the page's history up whenever I report, and when it is blocked I close the tab, lol. Of course, I don't prematurely report users to AIV, except in very rare situations (obvious socks doing severe disruption) If I have one complaint about a lot of the UAA submissions, it is for promotional names that have never contributed, and a great many of those names, could very likely be complete coincidence, unrelated to the company. With the sheer volume of internet sites/companies out there, this is just bound to happen unintentionally, and no way to judge if the user has not made any edits. Obvious names that have dotcom or .com in them, of course, are an exception, but I really cringe when I see people combing Google just to match a name with a company without any shown intent by the username in question. I understand it, but I just don't always think it is appropriate to report them. Wonder how far away Until's parser thing is from being done? ArielGold 06:08, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, some of the extremities on UAA are frustrating. Hell, I'm just happy that nobody's thought to slap me with a username block just because of evula.com (or .net, or .org...). :) EVula // talk // // 06:16, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Hmmm.... Flyguy649 runs to block EVula ;) -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 06:18, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
~*Giggle*~ Hey, Flyguy, Until saw our conversation, check out my stats, and look how awesome that tool is (if you hadn't seen it before). That's a marvelous piece of coding! ArielGold 06:29, 3 October 2007 (UTC)
I see Until has been flooded with requests. Maybe he should make the tool crappier ;) -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 04:16, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

Caroline Mulroney

Is there any way that I could get the source of the deleted article (i.e. could you temporarily undelete it, or post the source on my Talk page), as I plan on implementing some sections of it on Brian Mulroney?

I've read the debates and realize that both times the deletion proceded. Nonetheless, the notability of the Frank magazine and wedding could somewhat fit on her father's page. GoldDragon 17:40, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

db attack

Hello Flyguy. How is the life of a slave to the admin backlogs? I just happened to note on the deletion log that you speedied South Gangston. Obviously, I have no objection to that but as you just clicked the "delete" tab, the actual attack is still appearing in the deletion log. So just a friendly reminder: avoid this at all cost. Solutions include: clicking on the "deletion" link on the {{db-attack}} template or using the admin script that pops up a list of speedy rationales. You can add to your monobook

// CSD AutoReason

importScript('User:^demon/csd.js');

You may have it already but otherwise, it's a nice little tool. Cheers, Pascal.Tesson 06:10, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, I realized just as I hit the delete button that I hadn't blanked the window. My first screw-up (well, so far as attack pages go), I believe! I think I'll try ^demon's tool. Thanks, Pascal. -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 06:15, 8 October 2007 (UTC)

Rhiannan T.

A page called Rhiannan T. had been deleted before at about 5:50 on the seventh of October 2007. I believe this should not have happened because in far out regions Rhiannan T. is an important thing to know about and those movies were short movies known well within the area of the where-a-bouts' of Rhiannan T. so I'm just asking why did you delete it. ARE YOU RACIST Flyguy649? EA —Preceding unsigned comment added by Evil America (talkcontribs)

I have not been online for a couple of days, so pardon my tardy response. I'm not racist, and to accuse me of being so is rude, to be frank. I noted "WP:CSD#a7" in the deletion log when I deleted the article. If you look that up, you will see "No indication of importance/significance. An article about a real person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content that does not indicate why its subject is important or significant. This is distinct from questions of notability, verifiability and reliability of sources. If controversial, list the article at Articles for deletion instead." I felt that the article did not assert notability. I note also that another admin, NawlinWiki, also deleted the same article for the same reason after my deletion. If you are unhappy with this, you may request a deletion review. -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 15:13, 10 October 2007 (UTC)

Kenny Richey

Hello, I would appreciate if you could explain why you moved Kenny Richey to Kenneth Richey after merely one day of the move was proposed, and without consensus. --supernorton 10:24, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Well, the explanation is simple. I was clearing out the backlog in CAT:CSD and I came across Kenneth Richey tagged with {{db-move}}. That tag should only be used for uncontroversial moves, which this apparently was not. I assumed that the tag had been correctly applied. I will revert the move shortly. -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 15:51, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

A question about deletion

You deleted an article i wrot entitled, The Chanukah Song (We are Lights). I understand you found it not of much importance, but i was in the process of rewritting it when it was deleted. I was wondering if deleted articles are stored anywhere, so they could be possibly reworked. If they are saved somewhere. How would i find it. Kiwiboy121 16:08, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

I have put the article into a user sandbox at User:Kiwiboy121/The Chanukah Song (We Are Lights) where you can work on it. Note that articles in user space should not have any categories in them so I have not included either the category tag or the stub tag. -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 16:17, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Thank you how could i find deleted articles in the future? Kiwiboy121 16:21, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
Only administrators can view deleted content. Thus, a request of an admin (preferably the one who deleted the content) is the best course of action. Alternatively, you can "edit" the material using a wordprocessor program on your local computer and only copy it to Wikipedia when it is complete. Let me know if you have any more questions. Cheers! -- Flyguy649 talk contribs 16:24, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Deleting making the bed

Don't let your negligent personal hygiene affect your wikipedia decisions. The rest of the world makes their bed. Also try reading the patent nonsense section instead of just drooling at the title until you recognize a few letters and decide that it fits; patent nonsense is only for completely random configurations of letters or words. Making the bed is a perfectly reasonable idea for an article and qualifies for an AfD, or at the verrry least a prod since there was so little content --frotht 05:14, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

servo.hatred

Why did you "protect" this article? Yes, it was re-created multiple times, but that was because I gave sources that prove that it is a notable band, and then administrators kept deleting it without giving me a reason. I contacted Simon (the guy who founded servo.hatred) through Myspace, and he feels pretty certain that SH is the most prominent Dark Electro act in Hungary, which qualifies them for an article. However, neither one of us knows how to prove it, aside from Myspace numbers. Any suggestions? (Aquaspace 16:37, 18 October 2007 (UTC))-Aquaspace

Although they may be the most prominent Dark Electro act in Hungary (satisfying WP:BAND#C7), that fact still must be verifiable with reliable sources. That seems to be the problem here. A quick Google search found more than 11,000 web pages referencing Servo.hatred (whcih suggests that they are more than just passingly known), but I couldn't find any news articles per se. The fact that SH have no albums released as yet (per their myspace page) and are unsigned makes it likely that the article would likely fail at articles for deletion (WP:AFD) if the article were nominated for deletion. If you like, you can work on the article for a bit and try WP:AFD when you think it's ready. But in all honesty, I'd suggest sitting on it until SH are more established. It's up to you. Requesting to unprotect United Nation of Islam and revert to last ClueBot version.

Dethme0w, Flyguy649 and Michaelbusch

I am not a follower of anyone and I am not connected with the organization that I wrote about. I did a paper on them when I was in high school and I listed many of the sources. I was asked by wikipedia staff to wikify the article and cite references. Below are the references that I did and I included major news paper references like Christian Science Monitor, Kansas City Business Journal, Kansas City Star, Kansas City Kansan, Associated Press etc. However you all deleted my article and put a clearly non balanced article in it's place and now you are asking for references. I am requesting that you all LOOK AT THE REFERENCES listed below. This group is well documented in noteworthy news sources. I recomend that the article be reverted back to the ClueBot version and if other information is added to the article that it is put under the same wikipedia style guidelines in which I was asked to conform. actually may I speak to you off wiki please regarding this, I had a temporary account set up, to deal with this problem, removing my personal information off of Wikipedia, the information is very personal and does not belong on Wikipedia.

Thank you Tiffany Saltandpepper69 16:56, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Email me. -- Flyguy649 talk 16:57, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks!

I will have to enable my email later today! see what I don't "get" is that 2 Administrators already deleted the info , the guy keeps reviving it to humiliate me, as he feels the need to punish. ( I am starting to feel like Hestor Pryne from The Scarlet Letter for mistakes I made that were just rooted in not knowing Wikipedia policy. For Example: Image Uplaoding, ect.

I hope this is not a joke and that you can sincerly help me. Its not fun knowing the entire world can see my personal business.

Holy shit, take a look at this:

Awesome!! That answers some questions. Now we just have to make sure it doesn't get cut-and-pasted into the articles. -- Flyguy649 talk 22:12, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Could you please unblock my account

Re: Cuntass (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · block user · block log)

Hi my name is Tass Molnar, I am from the village of Cun in Baranya county, Hungary.Cún

The name (Tass) has roots in hungarian mythology. ( You can check this all out..(There's no Tass page on wikipedia but you will find it on google (although I can only find references to it on lists of baby names).

I would very much appreciate if you would unblock my account as this is the username i use for e-mail, social-networking and all other sites. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.42.95.21 (talk • contribs) 17:57, October 20, 2007

Tass, although I believe your story is plausible, The combination of Cun + Tass is read by native English speakers as cunt + ass, which is profane. I'm sorry, but I still believe Cuntass fails our username policy. However, I will post this at WP:ANI#Username block review for a review by other administrators. You may wish to register as Tass Cun or something instead. -- Flyguy649 talk 22:12, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
As you can see if you look at the WP:ANI page I linked above, there is consensus that "Cuntass" is a problematic username. I'm sorry, you'll have to register another. Regards, -- Flyguy649 talk 23:41, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Dominic Riccitello...

...has been reposted. I'll let you deal with it, mainly because I'm not an admin, but also because it's 8am and my legs hurt and I'm going to bed. Have fun with it :-) Chase me ladies, I'm the Cavalry 06:46, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Someone else deleted it, and it got reposted yet again. I have deleted it again. -- Flyguy649 talk 02:48, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Vandalism of Macy's

Thank you so much for blocking the user who has been vandalizing the Macy's page and any page connected with it. I don't like Macy's either, but it's clearly no reason to vandalize Wikipedia. Several of the pages are on my watchlist (like Marshall Field's) and I don't appreciate what this user has been doing. To permanently bar this user's IP address would be best. He/she has been vandalizing the pages since day one. Thanks! Dma124 15:28, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

Generally IPs don't get indef. blocked as IP addresses can be reassigned. I'll take a look though. -- Flyguy649 talk 02:49, 23 October 2007 (UTC)

Pssst

That username you were discussing with Dreadstar, he asked what I thought, and I wasn't sure, so I asked him to ask you since you're so awesome with usernames, but I figured that there would really be nothing much that could be done. It is sad that the editor seems to be using that talk page for a personal agenda of some sort, against the school, but unless it gets overly uncivil, I guess nothing can be done. Thank you for weighing in on it! (And great to see you here today!) ArielGold 05:12, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Good to be back! I hope you're starting to feel better. Dreadstar emailed me earlier, so I gave a quickie response by email and felt a follow-up would be a good idea. And thanks for the referral. I'll cut you a cheque (or check)! I've been trying to finish the thesis, and it's taking longer than expected, but it's almost done. But I suspect my days of 8 hours of editing are likely behind me for a while. Later! -- Flyguy649 talk 05:17, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Darn, I was hoping once you were done with your thesis, you'd be back in full force! ~*Giggle*~ ArielGold 05:19, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
<secret communique> Yeah, "pssst", thanks Flyguy649, for your awesomeness. You too Ariel, how awesome is this anyway? </secret communique> Dreadstar 05:19, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Wow, thanks for pointing out user:Dreadstar753951, the name didn't bother me but the vandalism sure did! Saaaay, was it a COI for me to block? Dreadstar 02:53, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
LOL! Looks like we were cross-posting...and as for my sincerity about "COI", juuust click on it..heh..Dreadstar 02:57, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
Ok, ya got me there...Koi not Goldfish...heh.. Dreadstar 03:03, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
I dunno, I think the Fantanas are covered under WP:HOTTIE, so they trump the wiggles...but that may be my own "guy" bias... ;) Dreadstar 03:10, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
WP:HOTTIE? I'm taking bets on how long until that one goes to mfd! But funny! And Dreadstar, I think we can have Konflikts of Interest as a legitimate redirect to WP:COI... Actually the only reason I know about the spelling is that someone in my lab is studying a gene called klaroid, which is abbreviated as koi, and he's also a koi fan... UAA question

This name was declined at UAA (I didn't report it, just noticed shockingly, that it was declined and deemed "not a violation".) I'm wondering what you think of this. Douche is an extremely rude and offensive term to most people, used in a derogatory manner, and used as a personal attack most often. Yes, it is also a hygiene term, but since "Henry" is most likely not a woman who would be douching, I find it quite unlikely that this name was created with a "self reference" in mind. The name isn't "Henry douches" but "Henry the Douche", as in, one of the rudest insults out there. Am I the only woman who would find this highly, extremely offensive if they saw this editor's signature? ArielGold 06:40, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

This is certainly a breach. Indef blocked. -- Anonymous DissidentTalk 06:59, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
Thank you dear AD! And I'll just tell Flyguy "Good Morning" instead :) ArielGold 07:02, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
I concur. Good one! Dreadstar 07:07, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
  • I agree with the block on that one. It's highly unlikely that the guy is a French speaker who's actually a shower ;P And I'd have to say that the unhappy person who sent me some fan email calling me a douche meant it in any way other than as an insult. And good morning, Ariel ;) -- Flyguy649 talk 14:53, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

On usernames

[2] Maybe not, but if his first name were, say, "Jackson", I might suggest he should send actual proof (maybe something scanned to OTRS) rather than just assuming. There is, I think, a line to be drawn on what can be considered a plausible Scunthorpe Problem on its face, and what could use a little more verification. —Random832 20:40, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

There's definitely a line where real names may cause a problem. cf. User:Cuntass, who alleges to be named Tass from Cun, Hungary. I blocked it becaused it's likely to offend. Besides, there are alternative names that wouldn't look so foul! -- Flyguy649 talk 21:59, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Blocked in error

Hey, no problem. For any active admin, stuff like this will eventually happen. Keep up the good work. -- Chris 73 | Talk 18:06, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for your understanding! -- Flyguy649 talk 20:43, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

I wish we were allowed LONGER names!

You work with what you have. Thanks for not blocking me, by the way. Maybe this could be placed on usernames for discussion. What is the link to that?HERE COMES AN EVIL PRESENCE...AND I DO MEAN EVIL!! 21:11, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

I replied at your talk page. Long names, even when distinctive, tend to veer away from "harmonious editing". -- Flyguy649 talk 21:19, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Regarding your message on Newyorkbrad's talk page

See my response. And thanks for pointing that out.--U.S.A.U.S.A.U.S.A. 23:13, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

Not a big deal! It's sometimes odd to think of non-Wikipedia methods of communication for Wikipedia-related issues. And your question was valid, and you asked it politely. -- Flyguy649 talk 23:15, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

AN APPEAL TO REASON BEFORE ARBITRATION - UNOI

I have placed an appeal to reason before arbitration category on my discussion page with the evidence to support unfactual editing by you and others. I would like your opinion on the facts before we take this further.

Involved parties

Thanks for the quick revert

I figure you probably spotted the report on AIV... That was quick! Just for my information, is there a better place to report vandalism that was protected on a page? I figured AIV would get it fixed quickly (since it was the main-page featured article, probably should be fixed as soon as possible), but wasn't sure that was the right place... Thanks, Bushytails 06:18, 30 October 2007 (UTC).

I think this was with respect to Image:WanacheBuild88large.JPG. The page is actually not protected, so I don't know why you couldn't revert it. Check that. The subpages and images of Main page articles are protected by cascading protection. Strangely, the vandalism was from September 28! Hmmm... AIV is probably not the best place, since it is technically for reporting vandals, not vandalism. I'd suggest WP:ANI. -- Flyguy649 talk 06:26, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
The vandalism pre-dates the image being protected, obviously... Hence why it's from the 28th! It doesn't show up as protected until you actually try doing something, says "edit this page" at the top and all... but won't let you actually fix things. I guess image description vandalism isn't a big issue, but it does show up when you try enlarging an image. Surprised no one spotted it before. Thanks again, Bushytails 06:32, 30 October 2007 (UTC).
Probably no one has gone to the image description page in a while. Anyway, good catch there, and no problem! -- Flyguy649 talk 06:33, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
