[edit] PK Section

It says in the PK section that disposition will be reset to zero when dying. I don't think this is true. Can anyone confirm my suspicions? JackTalk 23:33, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

Yes, it is true (if disposition is that pink/red name that appears). Not sure if the disposition stat in the window goes down. However, PK count will remain unchanged unless the player undertakes a certain quest, and until then they suffer a damage penalty (at least for PvP) For each kill in the PK count (up to 20 is counted), the player does 5% less damage in PK (capped at 99% at 20+ kills). Oubliette 22:48, 27 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Version 9.0

i just went to open the game and the Patch Client has a news item about Version 9 and a link to it's "minisite" (http://flyff.gpotato.com/version9/) where there seems to be a bit of info about the new version. maybe a new section should be added to the wikipedia article concerning version 9 and all of the changes?69.212.159.205 05:39, 1 September 2007 (UTC)

as of v9 the pk/pvp system is almost completely different, so now this article is officially wrong.68.255.174.173 15:09, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Flight level statement

I believe mounting time (for the time being) is always 2.5 seconds and the accell of the flight is always the same. So a source is need on this statement. Supposedly the creators are thinking of adding further features that would make this level important, but not yet.

The PXP bar has been replaced by the SXP bar as of version 7. The picture of the status window, which shows a PXP bar, should be replaced with a more updated picture.

Just put one up. Oubliette 03:07, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

"Flyff is billed as the first MMO to have a flying system, which it does to great effect." -- This needs to be expounded upon or corrected, since City of Heroes has flight, EverQuest has something approximating flight, and Earth and Beyond was a space flight sim MMO. --FreelanceWizard 11:42, 13 August 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, that has been fixed. The original writer for this article probably took that off the game's ads on random sites; these ads state Flyff to be "The World's First Flying MMORPG!". What the creators probably meant is that this is the first game where you can actually use flying as a primary form of transportation, similar to mounts in World of Warcraft. --RagolSlayer 18:00, 17 September 2005 (UTC)

-City of Heroes, anyone? 76.197.31.14 13:31, 12 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Inappropriate Tone

I'm tagging this page under inappropriate tone for the use of the second grammatical person. I know some of you might object, but use of it is highly unprofessional, rude and condescending to the reader because it assumes the reader wants to actually play it, rather than be informed about it. The use is so extensive I would have taken the time to clean it all, but I'm busy at the moment. I hope you can cleanup the second person references, make them in the third person ("players", perhaps). Then the tag can be removed. --Antoshi~! T | C 05:46, 20 March 2006 (UTC)

I just removed every instance of "you" and "your" I could and attempted to tighten up the article a bit. While this arguably would be enough to remove tag, the article still needs cleaning up and damned if I'm not sure which tag to replace the current one with. Sethimothy 11:42, 21 March 2006 (UTC)

I edited the page--I only took out a small graffitti someone had left about how "blades own" or whatever.

-In the flying quest section I tried to correct the use of the word 'you' and reworded a bit of the content..(I'm not sure if I went about it correctly though, I'm a new user ^^;). As a player of flyff, I'm also a bit unsure of the correctness of some of the information, as I don't remember having to do a 'flying test' to obtain a 'license', though I left it as it is. Kat 10:56, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

Okay, I'm going to remove the inappropriate person tag, 'cause I can't find any more instances of it. The class selections need a little weeding out of walkthroughish stuff though, and I'm not sure exactly what constitutes that, so.... --Niroht 16:52, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] What a mess

The layout is utterly horrific. I tried fixing up the "class" section, but I'm not sure how well I went about doing it.

The "locations" section should be removed entirely, along with the "story" section since it contains copyrighted (and Engrish) descriptions of the setting. I'll work more later...I have finals now. — Indi [ talk ] 11:27, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

I've reviewed the story, and I couldn't find anything that would backup your 'Engrish' claim; it's proper English as far as I can tell. I agree on your copyright claim though, it needs to be reworked ASAP as it was copied word from word from the FlyFF Philippines site. --Aeon17x 14:54, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
This article is, in fact, a complete mess. There is no logo, no citations, no references, and no footnotes. It should either be removed or started again from the start. --Malik 01:21, 23 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Guide-ish Read and Relevance

Most of the article reads like a guide, with the author of sections suggesting things like "It's probably best if you ignore it. Seriously.", and giving hints and suggustions to the reader. With some things having little point at all: "Q and A" and the "Flying Quest" sections, anyone? The "Q and A" section states "Post a question here and maybe someone will edit a answer in" or somthing like that. I haven't checked the Wikpedia policy, but I'm pretty sure that Wikipedia shouldn't be used as a guide, much less a bulitin board for Q and As. I've put up the template as of the 9th of July, 2006. Emerald 04:58, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Ahh, I've found a better template. Sorry for the first one. Emerald 04:58, 10 July 2006 (UTC)

Alright, i guess i should try to edit the Flying section a bit then. Btw, any other sections you think is too... guide-ish? Personally, i think the whole of the Flying Quest section is pretty much useless to a non-player. However, both the quest and combat sections could be included as a note in the Flying section... --Slayze 15:06, 11 July 2006 (UTC)
Vagrant leveling is too guide-ish, such as don't put any int, etc. The article is fairly good, but it doesn't really belong in an encyclopedia. --Wirbelwind 22:00, 21 July 2006 (UTC)
I edited the flying section a bit, but the flying combat section seems entirely "guide-ish". Although it may be worth mentioning that the game has flying combat, the whole entry revolves around the statement: "The easiest method to fight one is…" Definitely needs editing if anyone knows more about the game than I do. --dyn 01:07, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Will this work?

Maybe we should take out the Flying Quest section? It doesn't seem necessary then. I just left it in in case someone has a reason to not get rid of it. Oubliette 22:21, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

In my opinion, the entire flying section should either be rephrased, or get most of its parts deleted. -Slayze 13:40, 1 August 2006 (UTC)
Note: By "flying section", i meant both the Flying and Flying Quest sections.

I am also rewriting the Secondary Classes section so that it gets to the point without as much "guide-ish" writing as before. Tell me if the edits themselves need improving. Oubliette 12:50, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

I deleted the price data since it was unnecessary. Sorry for not adding an edit summary. Squids and Chips 04:04, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] PXP

As far as I know (I play the game regularly) PXP is only expended if the skill you use is set to levelling up (the level of the skill not the character), otherwise it uses only FP or MP.
Codegrinder 18:59, 12 August 2006 (UTC)

"currently has 120 levels of possible character progression." a quote from download.com (http://www.download.com/Flyff/3000-7543-10460145.html?part=dl-Flyff&subj=uo&tag=button)

[edit] Category suggestion

Now, I'm still pretty new to the inner workings of wikipedia, but I'm wondering, would a "Free to play MMORPG" category be a good idea? Or maybe a broader "Free to play online games" category? If it is, how do you go about getting a category created? Errick 19:19, 25 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Use of "Subclass"

I'm not entirely sure that "subclass" is the right word to use to describe the second job classes, as subclass tends to describe a division of a higher class. For example, while Blades and knights technically do come from the Mercenary class, they are not really mercenaries anymore. An couple examples that do fit the word subclass, though, would be Bow Jesters or Full Support Assists, since they, despite build types, are still Jesters and Assists, respectively.

In summary, the second job classes in Flyff are more of a higher ranking of first job classes rather than lower devisions. Maybe a more appropriate word is needed here.

Well, that is true, i guess. If anyone wants to, go change all the subclass refences to "Advanced Class" or something, i suppose.--Slayze 06:08, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Where is the Acrobat picture?

If someone here could put up a decent picture with the Acrobat (classes) in it, that would be great. I'd do it myself, but I don't know where I can just upload a picture here on Wikipedia. Oubliette 02:30, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

I would be able to put that up, if only i could find a nicely cropped picture of the Acrobat class. In the fansite packs for the various versions of Flyff, i could only find the other 3 classes and their subclasses, with no clean pictures of the Acrobat classes at all. And the upload page for images is here.--Slayze 06:08, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article Length?

Anyone think this article is a bit too long and indepth? It's like how the article on truthiness is longer than the article on lutherans. (If anyone got that, you're awesome. If you didn't, it's colbert on wikiality. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zmHm0rGns4I) Well, I think a lot of it, especially the sections on Game mechanics, Flying, PvP and Classes should be moved to wikibooks. -spotco

[edit] Linkspam

This whole article gets waaaay too much linkspam. Problem is, with that "unofficial" heading I'm not sure what I should remove. I'm inclined to remove that section altogether. So.....what defines what I should remove, and how far does an "unofficial" heading legitimize links? --Niroht 15:18, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

I removed the ones that seem like personal site promotions, as well as the sites based around a forum instead of guides. The video one is iffy to me though. --Wirbelwind 16:49, 14 September 2006 (UTC)
I'm tempted to remove it, and I'll check a couple of the other ones as per Wikipedia is not google. --Niroht 16:35, 18 September 2006 (UTC)
Okay, I've removed a bunch of them. I decided that we only need one guide link.--Niroht 16:38, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

I have added the links again please do not remove them this is vandalism some of these where very usefull to me and have guides that arent on other pages. If you have to remove links be more carefull next time. Thanks. Also this isnt 'way to many linkspam' imho. This are only a few lines ad a few bites of information thats usefull so dont delete it. If you dont like it, I do so pleeeeeaase leave it alone.

I'm afraid that this isn't a FAQ or weblog. Or Google for that matter. As per Wikipedia: External Links this IS too many links. We want ONE guide and ONE fansite only if fansites are important. This is NOT vandalism. I'll give you two days to give me a GOOD reason to leave those links there, and if I don't get one I'm removing them. --Niroht 15:51, 25 September 2006 (UTC)

Ok, the links im using are still there so Im happy with that.

I added a Player killer information chart. It's a useful image, and the only one on the interweb that isnt in japanese or korean. I made it, so no copyright infringment there. -Clockworks

I designed a FlyFF Wiki specifically for everything Flyff. There are many Flyff Wikis, however I produced a page with links to many Flyff sites and am looking for more link contributions (and corrections or translations to the links already listed). I am not sure if it is okay to provide a link to the Links page that I am referencing here in this discussion page, but I'd like to bring it up to find out if it is okay and if so, I'll add it here. I think it might be useful to reference here also, but I am not sure. Let me know. ^_= Mizerydearia 03:14, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Maximum level

Do anyone actually know what is the real maximum level? 150 or 120? If i'm not wrong, we've been switching between them for quite a while now. -Slayze 15:33, 15 September 2006 (UTC)

As according to the system, it is 150. But kFlyff had indirectly hinted that they have something planned at 120... hence the switching. To some degree, both of those information are correct... But I would root for 150, since that was the limit we saw during the hacking craze at the early stage of the game. Either way, max. level is unachievable through normal means in game no matter which version of Flyff you are playing. - Crystalis

L150. There's a proposed third jobchange at L120. -Zan

According to eFlyff Game Masters, kFlyff IS working on 3rd job changes. Crevox 12:57, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure a Game Master can go to 150, but the max for players is 120. TehFreeze 01:45, 4 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Criticism

The "criticism" section is in major need of toning down, I get the impression that it was written by a bitter player who had made a few mistakes at the Cash Shop and wanted to get back at the game by flaming it in an "acceptable" manner. Nonetheless, if someone with more patience then I could reword that to be less harsh then I think that would probably be well deserved. 67.171.35.4 19:18, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

I still plan on it eventually, like I reworked from the top to the end of the flying section and haven't gotten to the rest. --Wirbelwind 01:48, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Mercenary class is NOT crippled. I've had a level 32 character that was slaying level 40 monsters. I'm not sure anyone cares about two skills that much. Oubliette 15:23, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Gameguard makes the system unstable and unreliable? That doesn't seem to be the case with my system. I think the Gameguard part in the 'Criticism' section needs some cleaning up, as it seems a little one-sided instead of being neutral. -jeffk

Most thing in there is one-sided, unfortunately. Personally, I don't think most of it belong at all, and certainly not under a section called criticism. --Wirbelwind 03:21, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

I would be toning down and balancing more of it, but to be honest I know virtually nothing about Gameguard and haven't seen much of the glitches and things that're mentioned, so I can't remove them. If someone could do some research on that sort of thing and work based on that, it'd be great. I've been reduced to just rewording it to sound less harsh. 67.171.35.4 19:18, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

I think a critisism section should be appropriate, there is a lot of critisism from players on the flyff forums aswell. Often complained about is:

  • The cash shop policy: Items to expensive, pets removed from game and put into cash shop, items not tradable, shop *items cannot be sent trough mail (in game item transfer system)
  • the economy, cash shop items are under mayor inflation as are other rare items. Some prices are truely insane.
  • Hacks, the game has been suffering form hackers alot including kill hacks, attack speed hacks etc
  • Server reboots etc...
  • Bad costumer service, although flyff is said to befree to play, reality is alot of players donate money to support flyff.
I'm not denying that, but those are player remarks, and nothing notable, such as gaming magazines, etc, and have no reason to be in the article. I can, however, go on a gaming wiki if you so choose. --Wirbelwindヴィルヴェルヴィント (talk) 00:40, 10 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Um... help? :(

If anyone knows how to put pictures in a box next to specific text, could you put this image I uploaded next to the Clockwork's Cage section? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Clockworks1.PNG Oubliette 02:44, 15 October 2006 (UTC)

Shouldn't it be using a picture of the cage with Clockworks, instead of just a picture of Clockworks though? In any case, I placed it in... a few weeks later though. Wasn't looking at this article for quite a while... If you get a picture of the cage itself, please replace this image.--Slayze 04:07, 2 November 2006 (UTC)

If only I could... :( But I don't have/don't know/can't bribe a guild that will let me in the cage just for the necessary screenshot. :( But hey, there he is rampaging through Saint Morning. :P And after months of procrastination, there's a nice Acrobat screenshot. Oubliette 06:02, 11 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Revamp

I did what I could. I removed the little needed criticism section, fixed the classes section to be less guide-like, added the notability reference, etc. I haven't touched the areas section though. --Wirbelwindヴィルヴェルヴィント (talk) 07:39, 14 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Concerned...

About the Second Classes section. I know I added to the First Classes part to include some abilities of each class, but I just did that to make them longer. We didn't need to do the same thing to the Second Classes thing. It's turned into a "guide" again. I want to change it back to the format I wrote months ago, but I don't want to climb the Reichstag dressed as Spider-Man. If it's all right, could we change it back?

And I know that there might be a problem on what I put for the first classes based on my above logic. All I can say is, i'm working on it. I also added to the first classes section to accomodate the Acrobat picture I put in, or there would have been too much empty space.

Thank you.

Oubliette 04:05, 5 December 2006 (UTC)

I don't think specific abilities and what they do are necessary for a encyclopedic entry. Squids and Chips 23:26, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

Are you talking about what I put months ago, or now for the first classes? I guess the second classes section can stay. But it's the Blade entry that doesn't seem right. Oubliette 03:05, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

I'm talking about the second classes. The first section is not so specific and in its generalizing form, covers more skills without going into them (although first class skills are mostly similar, especially for the Mercenary class). The second class leads to specific skills chosen at the discretion of the editor in every second class section except for Elementor. Squids and Chips 01:39, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Updates Section

For one thing, it seems totally pointless.

But on what the content that is in it:

There are a lot of things said that i feel are utterly pointless. A large part discusses pets. The rest really talks about Pay to play items (or what ever you want to call them). I dont know how long it will last, but I have taken the liberty to remove some random facts of updates, and renamed the article.

The above may seem confusing, and thats because i wasnt really thinking while I was writing it. Shmirlywhirl 17:08, 26 December 2006 (UTC)

I must request that you sign your name next time. =/ And, I don't think it belongs up there at all. It was just a front for non-neutral criticism, and you were right to take it down. If someone wanted updates, they just have to go to the website. Oubliette 03:03, 23 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding two things

  • the commented out story -- Since the Story section was commented out due to concerns as it was taken directly from the flyff site, should it be removed or rewritten?
  • citations -- This article is in need of citations. Unfortunately, most of the information comes in-game. Doubly unfortunate, the Flyff English site does not provide much information on gameplay, maps, skills, etc. The "Flyff Quick Game Guide" and "F.A.Q" links lead to the the Forum which has its verifiability issues as it's not "official" which leads much of this article to WP:OR.

Squids_and_Chips 01:58, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

not much is known about the flyff story line. Since it is not realy mentioned that much, I think that it isn't realy needed, while a link to the story on the website might be appropriate.67.183.172.63 17:37, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New updates.

Now that there are new updates through V7 (eg. SXP system), should we include any information about it at all? Or should we simply ignore it, as we did not include any information on skill training from the beginning? --Slayze 10:29, 3 February 2007 (UTC)

Keep both pictures, but label the newer one as such. Both should stay up for comparison. Oubliette 03:28, 5 February 2007 (UTC)

Er, which picture(s) are you referring to? I only mentioned about the information, nothing about images... Also, can someone change the story section accordingly? There is a "Prologue" button in the game now, which details a different story to the current one. Oh, and I'll try to get a new Status Window image up by the end of the week.--Slayze 12:28, 7 February 2007 (UTC)

I meant the status window pictures anyway. Oubliette 02:59, 8 February 2007 (UTC)

Someone removed the status window layout description. Who did that? And do we want it back? Oubliette 20:51, 17 February 2007 (UTC)

The entire the "Cash Shop" and "Game mechanics" section was vandalized but the "Game mechanics" section was never reverted. Squids_and_Chips 15:35, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "120 levels"

Now that Flyff is post-v7, there are new monsters in the game, and the 120-level thing is incorrect. I'm going to take that part out, and I'm just wondering if anyone knows what the current level cap is (if there even is one). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by TehFreeze (talk • contribs) 02:07, 7 February 2007 (UTC).

Eh, when was it right anyway? Last time I remember checking, it was a level 150 cap, with a job change planned at level 120.--Slayze 12:27, 7 February 2007 (UTC)
Well, Game masters usualy go to a max level of 150, but they are able to go higher, but when they reach a certain point other people's clients start to crash. I'm thinking that the current player-level gap is 150, but this has not been verified yet. Since no one is able to reach level 150, I think that it should be noted what is reachable, since all other numbers are theory, and the actual level reachable is not.67.183.172.63 17:32, 11 February 2007 (UTC)

No, it only goes up to 120 I know many players at 120 and I'm almost 120 104 :D but when you reach 120 you don't even gain exp anymore. So for now thats the level cap, only the mods can go higher. 67.81.148.142 03:05, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

That may not be true, just because you can't gain experience from any monsters in the game doesn't mean you can't gain experience period, it just means that those monsters are too low level. i killed like 30 small mushpangs with a level 20 character and remained with 0.00% exp the whole time. so apparently once you are a certain number of levels above monsters, you can't gain exp. from them. so the people who you know @ level 120 may not be able to gain any experience, but i assume it's because there's no monsters high enough level for them to gain exp. from. i dunno, if there's level 125-130 monsters then i could be wrong. i really don't know how exp or item drops work in this game (although i certainly wouldn't mind knowing).69.220.169.75 03:12, 23 April 2007 (UTC)
I've levelled from small Burudengs at level 30. I killed several hundred to gain 0.01% experience. It took over an hour. Not worth it in my opinion, but it's still something to consider.Vizierde 15:23, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

120 is the level limit, with the ability to gaing 99.99%, and not the final 0.01% to obtain 121, as it's unobtainable. 120 is the max for normal players, while 150 is the maximum for GM's.

[edit] Story

I noticed that the story section is commented out, does anyone know why? Surely some of the story should be presented, maybe at least a paragraph? --Remy Suen 12:45, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[1] Additionally, since V7, they have added a prologue and removed the Scenario Quest but kept the story on the website. The Scenario Quest supports the story on the website, but the prologue is a different one. Squids_and_Chips 15:27, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Version Update

I downloaded Flyff at home, but everytime I load up the game it downloads a patch, just 1/1 file. But then it gives me the option to start the game. I do this, and I was able to make a character and load the game. However, as soon as the game loads, game guard pops up and says "Hack found!". I use MacAfee or w/e at home. Does anyone else have this problem?

64.9.12.222 13:06, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

You should ask for help at the game's official website and not here. Try ensuring that all useless programs are off though, for starters, such as Firefox or MSN. --Remy Suen 13:45, 1 March 2007 (UTC)

Dscyrus: Dude tell Gms or you might be in big big trouble, all your things could be stolen. If i was you i would every time you log off put everything in your bank.

Sharpie_sketch: I also had said issue with maple story. To fix it you need to download a different security program and get rid of MacAfee. The reason for this is that MacAfee is imbued with a key logger, which gameguard finds as a hack. ((or you could turn of Security while you play) ((not a good idea)))

[edit] First paragraph

The title does, in no way imply that, "players can fly around the world using boards, brooms, or other devices." To suggest so is simply ludicrous.

PiAndWhippedCream 22:39, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

I've rephrased it. The title certainly does imply that players may fly. --Niroht | Smoke signals 00:05, 8 March 2007 (UTC)

H'what? Ringwall 19:50, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Skill system

I believe the skill system recently changed, but I haven't logged in and probably won't for several days. I'm pretty sure the amount of skill points increases depending on what level bracket you are in (kind of like taxes...) as stated on the boards and news page. Squids'and'Chips 02:49, 9 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pronouce

It's not Fliff it's flyff wtf why does nearly everyone I know pronouce it fliff?! It has an y which makes a long I sound. Fly is pronounced fly no flih.

I pronounce it as fliff myself. Is there an official word on the pronunciation somewhere? --Remy Suen 01:17, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Well as I stated before if you had passed Spelling 4 you would have realized that any Acronym and word pronounced together must be prnounced the way the word is originally pronounced and add the other acronym sounds on afterwards. And why the hell would it be prnounced fliff anyways? I can't think of an actual word in the english dictionary that uses Y to make and ih sound. always ie or ee. PS I read the dictionary every day at school. I Know how you pronounce these things. Ringwall 18:15, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

I sincerely doubt it's that big a deal, really. Please be civil, though, your previous comment seemed to me like it was overstepping the line a little bit.--Niroht | Smoke signals 00:26, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

Meh not really a big deal, but shucks, it's annoying when my bro repeatedly says 'fliff'. >:(!

lol... you read the dictionary at school? maybe thats why you care how a games name is pronounced o.O i say fliff, why? its easy to say and remember. fleyeff is an odd way of saying it... to me at least. and if you disagree, to bad... cause i dont care what you think, and i doubt you care what i think. either way. it doesn't matter. just dont flip out because someone says a word differently... its their choice, not yours. -Wolfe

True, though if one pronounces it fliff instead of flife they are opening themselves to criticism, not on my part, but by everyone else that knows how to pronounce it. It's like someone pronouncing Canada Canda. It really annoys everyone that hears it, and they feel obliged to correct them. I do agree that everyone has a free choice on how they speak, but mispronunciation is a real annoyance; I even think I heard something about France banning slang to keep their language pure.142.32.208.233 20:09, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

In Japanese it's フリフ which is 'furifu' or 'fliff'. If it was meant to be 'flife' it would be フライフ. Zurqoxn 22:17, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

I personally pronounce it 'fliff'. There are plenty of words that use Y to make the ih sound. Syllable, symmetry, sycamore, sympathize, symphony, symptom, synchronize, synagogue, synonym, synopsis, syrup, system, cymbal, cynic, dystrophy, gym, gypsum, gypsy, hypnosis, hypocrisy, nymph, pygmy, and pyramid, just to name a few. The use of the ie or ee sound for any of those words would be obviously a mispronounuciation. 'Flyff' could easily be prononced either way, with the ih sound, or a ie sound. Pronouncing it with the ih sound is much easier, and it seems to fit better than 'fleyef'. Besides, getting worked up over how people say certain words is just stupid. That's like freaking out every time someone with an accent starts talking to you. What are you going to do? Correct their every word because it's not how you say it? As long as you know what people are talking about, 'fliff' or 'fleyef' shouldn't matter. Xiodane 18:35, 17 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Public Domain images from the fan site kit?

This image has been tagged as originally under the domain and that its derivative work (however the author modified it from the original) is also under the Public Domain. Do images from fan site kit actually count as being under the Public Domain? Does anyone know? --Remy Suen 14:49, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

I asked the question on at the Help Desk and got the reply below. Should we begin removing some of the images? --Remy Suen 13:36, 15 March 2007 (UTC)
This image has been tagged as being a derivative work of an image that was originally under the Public Domain. Does anyone know what's the deal with images included in a "fan site kit"? --Remy Suen 19:01, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
It would depend on a lot of factors, but mainly the issuing company's copyright policy. First, if it was not issued by the company that created the characters, its probably a copyright infringement no matter what the website says. If it is issued by the creator, it would depend on their definition of a fansite. If it says anything about only non-commercial use, then it isn't public domain for Wikipedia. Wikipedia is not a fansite and does not promote products, so that may also need to be taken into consideration as fansites are effectively free advertising, while Wikipedia may also present the negative aspects of something, which the copyright holder may not like. If they say something alsong the lines of "This image has no copyright and is released into the public domain," then it fine. But right now, you have 2 tags on the image, a public domain tag and a fair use tag. The fair use tag doesn't apply though, 1320x695 is not low-resolution, a requirement for fair use. A quick look at the website though and it appears it is not in the public domain, and a simple photoshop collage of a few characters is still most likely protected by their copyright. I would say, by a look at the Flyff article, you have way too many images to qualify as fair use. Any game screenshot or picture from the website is copyrighted and for fair use, you need a linited number of low-resolution images. Right now, you have 12. I would suggest either removing some, or emailing the company and asking for permission. Mr.Z-mantalk¢Review! 23:33, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Would an image taken from the original korean site's fansite kit be usable then? I'm not able to read korean, but for anyone interested, here's a link for the fansite kit section of the korean website. Where exactly would you find their definition of a fansite anyway? Also, how would one go about deleting an image that was uploaded by accident? --Slayze 12:14, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
Well, unless someone speaks Korean and is willing to translate the site for us, we will never know. I highly doubt that they would be under the Public Domain myself, but if someone wants to check, they can always email Aeonsoft/GALA and find out. As to getting images deleted, I'd imagine that there is some template that you can use to tag it as such. --Remy Suen 14:43, 16 March 2007 (UTC)
So, we can't even have a logo for the game? Well, screenshots of the game seems to be usable. I can't really remember, but I think there's a logo of the game in the game itself, right? If there is, I'll go take a screenshot it tomorrow or something.--Slayze 21:11, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
The issue here is how you are tagging the images. You tagged them as being under Public Domain when you provided no proof of that being the case. If the images are copyrighted (which most or all of them likely are), they need to be tagged accordingly so that Wikipedia can use them under the "fair use" clause. Per Mr.Z-man, these "fair use" images needs to be used sparingly and be of "low-resolution". --Remy Suen 00:49, 18 March 2007 (UTC)
I've changed the image for it to a low-res one. As well as tagged it with the same tag that was on another game's logo. Is there any more problems with it? Wasn't too sure if I was supposed to remove that copyright warning part though. --Slayze 14:04, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

I've removed the pictures for the classes, because as far as I can tell we don't need them, and Mr.Z-man is right, we do have a bit too many pictures in the article. If you really think we need them, replace them, but I don't think we need that many in any article.--Niroht | Smoke signals 18:13, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

I agree. Those class pictures, at the end of the day, does not illustrate anything of importance. --Remy Suen 20:05, 15 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Clockworks' Cage? Clockwork's Cage? Or something else completely?

I'm not at the level that I'm able to go take a peek in there, but I was wondering as to what is the exact name of this place? I know the article names it as Clockwork's Cage, but the monster itself is named Clockworks, so that's not exactly right. As we all know, the international version of Flyff is plagued by spelling and grammatical errors, so I'd just like a confirmation as to whether the game really does call it Clockwork's Cage or not. Thanks. --Remy Suen 15:09, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, you do make a good point. But as you stated before, Flyff international has many gramatical errors, some even untelligible to the normal reader. So no matter how they spell it ingame, it definitely should be Clockworks' cage. Again, good point.Ringwall 19:49, 16 March 2007 (UTC)

But should it be Clockworks's or Clockworks'? The article on apostrophes doesn't help that much on that. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostrophe#Possessive_forms_of_nouns_ending_in_s Singular nouns ending in "s" can also use a " 's ".--Slayze 15:48, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm going to use Clockworks's Cage. Either way, it's better than the current incorrect name for the place. --Remy Suen 02:11, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Dscyrus:i wouldn't do that unless your lvl:85+

[edit] PVE

Stop putting it as PVE in the world clusters heading. It is literally PVE, but so is the PK server as well. You cannot just say one is PVE when both are PVE. It is PvP because you can fight player versus player in a duel, but on PK, you can player kill anywhere. just stop

I don't think that this is a correct generalization. A lot of MMORPGs offers a dueling option but companies do not market these games off as being a PVP game simply because that is not its focus. In EverQuest, there is open PVP on the servers ending with 'Zek', and only those are the ones that are tagged as being (PVP). It's the same as with Flyff, only the fourth server is tagged as such. In another context, I don't think people would call Diablo or Diablo 2 a PVP game. Anyone want to chip in on this discussion? --Remy Suen 20:57, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
I think the main problem that was being pointed out is that people are saying it's player versus environment in the world clusters heading, where it doesn't need to be because most games are PVE. And of course we don't need to say it's PVE, that would be like saying that Metroid is PVE.--Niroht | Smoke signals 02:02, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
I would agree with you if the edit in question had actually removed the PVE reference and only changed it to something like "three regular servers and one PK server". However, as you can see, this is not the case. It's a whole branding of three PVP servers and one PK server. This makes zero sense and is extremely confusing, given the current wording. --Remy Suen 02:08, 22 March 2007 (UTC)
Fixed.--Niroht | Smoke signals 20:11, 22 March 2007 (UTC)

Yes, good point. It is extremely obvious that it is PVE, and no point to call it PVE. But the thing is, when you are choosing a server it says (on Mia server) Mia 4-1(PvP) Mia 4-2(PvP) Mia 4-3(PvP) Mia 4-4(PK) It says PvP because you can fight other players in a duel, such as sparring. But on PK, it is a realistic mode in which (at lvl 15) you can be murdered, murder, or hunt down murderers. The whole fact of it saying PVE is pointless, as every MMO (I know of) is a PVE game.142.32.208.233 20:03, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

Again, the passage has been fixed. I don't think we really need to discuss it anymore.--Niroht | Smoke signals 22:32, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Status Window Images

We definitely need an image that corresponds to the current version with just four bars. I'm not too sure how many we want to show on the article though (PXP, SXP, and the new one, or just one of PXP/SXP and the new one). --Remy Suen 15:15, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

I'm going to get one of the new window. I would suggest that we put an image of the new one, and put in the dead SXP and PXP bar information as a sidenote at the bottom of that section.--Slayze 16:53, 23 March 2007 (UTC)
Okay, editted the status window section. See if it's alright... Not too sure if I should had gone into more detail about the old bars. --Slayze 17:35, 23 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Locations Section - Deletion

I propose that this section be deleted, or generalized in the terms of "there are deserts, forests...etc". It describes all the locations in the game at the moment, and this is not a guide. I would like an opinion on this. Crevox 21:09, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

Go for it. --Niroht | Smoke signals 03:52, 22 April 2007 (UTC)

I commented it for now. If anyone has a problem with it, please speak up, and we can talk about it. If not, I'll be deleting it completely soon. Crevox 21:57, 25 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] World Clusters

Is it necessary to include the World Clusters section here? Philippines Flyff has different server names and is in English too. Oubliette 23:28, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pictures

We do not need that many. If you really wanted to add what each class looks like, combine the male/female images into one image and then make sure that a thumbnail, not the full-sized image, show up on the article. Even then, we should decide on which would be best to keep. DiscordantNoteCntrbtns 19:33, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

We gone through this before, didn't we? The last decision was to remove them. I'll probably do so if there are no objections, in a few days.--Slayze 15:07, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
The male psykeeper picture is inaccurate in that the gear is standard magician gear and so can be worn by a lev 60 magician or a psykeeper or a elementer. It should be replaced or removed. 129.42.208.182 18:07, 26 June 2007 (UTC)

While it's true the article doesn't need a picture of each class, there should be at least one pic with a close-up of a player. Maybe a beginner wearing default equipment. Zurqoxn 01:02, 25 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] MP for Asalraalaikum ?

I'm almost positive that it's FP and not MP... I mean, logically, it makes sense because all Billposter skills use FP. Although, I'm not sure what source to use to prove it... I'd appreciate it if someone could confirm this and cite it in any way possible. Faux pas114 15:37, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Nah, it's MP as far as I remember. It's just something like a final attack type of skill. Use one and only one... That's why Billposters are supposed to be "knight-killers".--Slayze 15:07, 16 June 2007 (UTC)
It's 100 FP, ALL MP. 72.193.0.212 16:21, 13 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Criticism

Is there no criticism for this game? Nothing is put in the way of it. ~Crowstar~crow calls 21:23, 21 July 2007 (UTC)

There is criticism, quite a bit depending on who you're talking to, but that section was removed due to POV concerns. Other gaming articles, including Good Articles, do not have a criticism section. They do have reception sections, so perhaps one could be put in here. --Niroht | Smoke signals 23:31, 21 July 2007 (UTC)
I'm having a hard time finding a review by a reputable site. However, I really do believe a reception or criticism section is warranted, considering there are a number of shortcomings in the client software. Unfortunately, without any sources to cite, I do not think it would be easy to write such a section without POV problems. --- dBased (talk) 09:24, 9 August 2007 (UTC)

Hmm... If I can find some reception, I shall put it up. ~Crowstar~crow calls 18:48, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] No More PK in any Server

Can someone please change, because they made now every Server without PK -Change, no sry it isn't. I was killed by one...

They're still ironing out the version nine issues, I say we wait until they've reached a level of slightly higher stability before we change anything. --Niroht | Smoke signals 19:59, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
No wonder this article has a template saying it needs to be updated. Just change it and worry about any further changes on the programming team's part later. You really can't just hold out on information just because you feel it can be made better by waiting. Oubliette 02:14, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Well it's reached that higher level of stability, so I've changed it. What I really meant was that I knew the system was going to be changed in a day or less (it's been changed now, so that article's been changed to reflect this), so it seemed like a waste of time and resources to edit it just to edit again 5 hours later. Again, it's been changed now to reflect the current state of events. --Niroht | Smoke signals 03:52, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Needless Deletion

I have noticed recently several sections including the maximum level, pk section and flying section have been edited strangely including large portions being removed, please do not remove information unless you know it is definitively falsified. —Preceding unsigned comment added by EpicDarkness (talk • contribs) 16:03, 29 September 2007 (UTC)

Information should also be removed if it constitutes gameguide information or information that goes into minute details. For instance, the specific stat increases of pets at any given rank should not be included. --Niroht | Smoke signals 17:01, 29 September 2007 (UTC)
The detail level on the page right now still seems too deep, but at the same time having information gaps all over (a result, I guess, of prior sections getting cut out). Since filling in these gaps would cause the article to go beyond a encyclopedia level, can it be shortened and summarized even more? --Piaweh 23:55, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
Go for it. Good faith edits that are gameguide material keep showing up, and need heavy trimming, which I can't always do since I'm not as active as I used to be. Also, make sure the word "you" isn't used anywhere. It's presumtuous.--Niroht | Smoke signals 01:11, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] blah

I lol at whoever mess this page up XD It's fun though. Only stuff is sometimes when people go on the very detail aspect. If I'm an outsider, I won't need to know about that stuff anyways. Leave the details to a game guide

[edit] Masquerpets

this section requres a bit of cleanup. The prefixes should be clearer. Right now, it is possible to mistake "pukepuke" as part of the prefix. The advantages of specific elements could be made into its own section or subsection, describing its relevance in regards to monsters, weapons, items, etc. "Giant" monsters may also requre its own subsection. Previously, the summary of Giant monsters included information on their massive amount of health in comparison to level and attack damage, however, that information is now missing. 85.139.172.109 19:54, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Go to it then! Be Bold in editing Wikipedia! The only bit of advice I have for you is to try not to go too into detail when discussing giants and such. It may be considered gameguide information or minutia. --Niroht | Smoke signals 21:07, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
