From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Flying Five is a Group 3 flat horse race in the Republic of Ireland for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 5 furlongs (1,006 metres) at the Curragh in late August or early September.
It moved to the Curragh in 2002, prior to which it had been held at Leopardstown since 1991. The race had previously taken place at Phoenix Park until the venue closed at the end of the 1990 season.
The race was promoted to Group 3 status in 1988 having been previously classed as a Listed race. It briefly held Group 2 status from 2002 to 2003, and two-year-old horses were eligible to participate before 2003.
