[edit] Flying Spagetti Monster

Does anyone else think flumphs look like the flying spagetti monster?

Other way around. They predate His Noodly Lordship by several years. :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.224.148.118 (talk) 17:33, 16 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Why is it "ridiculous"?

I read the article, did a bit of googling, and I still fail to see why this creature is considered "the most ridiculous creature ever created for the D&D game". It sounds very similar to a beholder--general alien appearance, eyestalks, levitating, tentacles (which certain beholder-kin have.) About the only things that are even vaguely funny about it are its name, the fact that it's "helpless when turned over" (which is unexplained, but might have something to do with its mechanism of flight), and that they're lawful good (not an alignment one usually associates with a Cthulhu-esque aberration.)

So why is this creature laughed at, and beholders feared? Based on their descriptions, they seem equally "ridiculous" to me (but I'm pretty sure no player ever laughed at a beholder... at least, if they did, they didn't laugh for very long.) Is it just the difference in power level and alignment, or is it the turtle-esque weakness? Genuinely curious here. --Lode Runner (talk) 05:42, 7 December 2007 (UTC)

There's a hint, that they are the only lawful good monster in the Fiend Folio. As I recall, and I'm very sketchy here, they don't have a special ability or attack, and are rather weak. So you gotta wonder, a monster approaches, it doesn't attack, can't defend itself, was TSR just having a joke?64.252.32.136 (talk) 02:51, 13 April 2008 (UTC)

They had an acid attack and could drop down on unsuspecting victims from above. -- Peter —Preceding unsigned comment added by 65.222.132.2 (talk) 16:24, 1 May 2008 (UTC)
