Flux tube

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A flux tube is an area of space with a strong magnetic field and a tube-like shape. They are usually found around large cosmic bodies such as stars. The sun has many flux tubes of around 300 km diameter. Larger flux tubes of 2500 km diameter are known as solar pores or sunspots.

Some planets have flux tubes: there is a well-known flux tube between Jupiter and its moon Io.
