A flush-by is a oil well servicing unit that is basically a pressure truck with a derrick. Being a common piece of equipment used in the oil patch in western Canada, a Class 3 licence is needed to legally operate one. They have the ability to perform many servicing tasks on both vertical and directional oil wells including troubleshooting the oil well(determining if rods are parted or if there is a hole in the tubing), production flushes, pulling torqued rods caused by too much sand, spacing and re-spacing rods, clearing flowlines from sand, change out drive units, fishing broken rods from the oil well, changeing out rods, pressure testing the well and working together with coil tubing units and scope joint personal where need be. The flush-by is usually the first option that the oil company will use to get these jobs listed above accomplished because of the cheaper rates they offer vs. service rig rates. Although there are many jobs a Flush-By has the ability to do, they are limited to being able to pull tubing from a oil well and many other down hole tasks normally done by a service rig.
