[edit] Career

[edit] Germany (1993-2007)

Flula began his career performing as a Schuhplattler dancer in and around Erlangen, his hometown, located in northern Bavaria.[1] He shifted his attention from dance to music in the late 1990s, touring southern Germany as a techno and hip hop DJ.[1] His style of incorporating real sounds into his music garnered him a cult following, but he also achieved a few mainstream hits, including "Kuhchen," a response to the Mad Cow crisis affecting Europe at the time.[2][3] In early 2007, Flula moved to Los Angeles.

[edit] America (2007-present)

Flula's notoriety in America is most likely due to his first appearance on Current TV, a docu-piece called "Take Me Home James," about a personalized cab service that happened to pick up Flula, who appeared to be inebriated.[4] The piece was one of Current TV's 5 most popular in 2007, and led to an independent documentary series on Flula ("Flula Borg: German DJ").[5][6] After the series release, which also featured his cousin and creative partner Jürgen Horst, Flula began performing with Horst regularly at The Viper Room and The Derby.[2][7] Borg also began his acting and on-air hosting careers, starring in indie films such as "Christmas Break" alongside Stacey Dash and The Sopranos' Matt del Negro while hosting shows for AT&T's U-Verse programming (often with friend and roommate Dave Giuntoli), various Current TV pods, and social networking site Stickam.[8][9][10][11][12]

[edit] Popularity and honors

While working for AT&T at the Texas Redneck Games, Flula and co-host Jürgen Horst became the first non-Americans to participate and medal in the games.[1] In 2007, Current TV selected "Take Me Home James" as it's 4th most popular pod during its Top 71 Countdown.[5] In early 2008, Flula was selected a Top Ten Finalist for Stickam's SXSW Casting Call.[13]
