[edit] Stub?
Does everyone agree this article is a stub, taking in consideration its length mora than its content...? It has been proposed that we should nominate this article better in WP:COTW. See nomination to WP:AID comments on Flora I will, then, as a first step tag this as a stub.--Francisco Valverde 07:50, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
- I'm a little confused as to what this article should be about. Is it suposed to be about the various books which are flora, or is it about the concept of flora in general. I'd say the article does a faily good job of the former, most of the major flora (works) are described. For the latter is there much to say? You can talk at length about the flora of a particular country. But what can be said about the cocept of flora in general?
- A while back I proposed, in a obscure place, that we try to build up lists of the flora of specific countries, i.e. filling the various categories in Category:Flora by country with the plants native to those regions, posibly by use of a template. There is plenty of online resources we could use to get this data. --Salix alba (talk) 09:03, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
- It is about the concept of Flora. Although I am not a specialist, I am sure that of such a generic and important term, one of the main divisions of life, there is enought to write a Feature article. --Francisco Valverde 09:25, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
- How does this distinguish from plant which is an extensive article? --Salix alba (talk) 11:15, 13 April 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Split to Flora(plant) and Flora(work)
Some people have suggested that this page should be split into two, one describing the concept of flora in general an another specifically at the different books or other works which describe the flora of particular regions. I'm undecided myself, what do other people think. --Salix alba (talk) 12:27, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
- I think it would be better to make a distintion, although I am not sure of splitting it into two separate articles, define the sections better and write more about the concept, Fauna (animals) is a stub (still) but we could make Flora mirror it. But apart, as it was suggested in the talk page of Fauna (animals), we could change Flora (plants) into Flora and have it disambiguation for other uses...--Francisco Valverde 18:12, 3 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Quick diagram
Added a quick diagram. Hope you find it useful to visually explain the concept of flora. Open for suggestion. Jasu 19:48, 5 May 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Gene links
I've removed these links:
I don't think they especially belong here, any more than they would belong in Community (ecology). Although the genetic health of any one species in a flora ultimately can affect its presence in that flora, "flora" is a level of abstraction at a broader level.
I'm certainly willing to hear counterarguments.--Curtis Clark 13:07, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
