I'm concerned that the use of the full lyrics of the song in this article violates copyright laws. It's my understanding that it doesn't constitute fair use. I see work has been put into the article, so I wanted to discuss deleting that section before I doing so. Comments? -Throbblefoot 05:49, 3 November 2005 (UTC)

You are correct. They are a clear copyright violation. Please see Wikipedia:Copyright problems for instructions on how to proceed, if you haven't dealt with copyright violations before. -- Captain Disdain 05:57, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
Thanks for the advice. I deleted the offending section, but wasn't sure what to do about the chords section - is a transcription of the song's cords a copyvio too? Thanks,Throbblefoot 07:09, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
Well, since song melodies are considered to be distinct works of art, yes, that's a copyvio. (Also, listing the entirety of a song's lyrics and chords is not awfully encyclopedic, so even if it wasn't a copyright violation, it might not be very appropriate to include them in Wikipedia.) -- Captain Disdain 08:13, 3 November 2005 (UTC)
