[edit] History
Enduro was the only form of motorcycle racing offered by Florida Trail Riders until 1978, when FTR introduced a new Harescramble series. In 1997, Florida Trail Riders started a Motocross series. In 2006, FTR added Quadscrambles to its list of venues, due to the growing number of quads at Haresramble racing events.
[edit] FTR Today
FTR offers 4 different racing series, they include Enduro's, Harescrambles, Motocross, and Quadscrambles. Each of the 4 series attracts a vast amount of riders from all over the state of Florida, and even some from other southern states. FTR's Harescramble series, is without a doubt, its largest, attendance-wise. An FTR Harescramble event draws anywhere from 600-1000 riders at any given event on its 13 race circuit. The FTR Harescramble Series turns out some of the fastest offroad racers in country. These riders include Justin Williamson, Garrett Edmisten , and Joey Baker; as well as a slew of young upcoming amateur talent. FTR's other 3 series are also continually growing. The FTR Quadscramble series was introduced due to the growing number of quads attending Harescramble events, and has grown stronger attendance-wise since its start in 2006. The Enduro series has also grown in the 2007 season, likely because most of the races in the 2007 season are in Florida, opposed to last season were a fair amount of the Enduro races were out of state. The FTR Motocross Series, just like the HS, Enduro, and MX series, is running strong, and has put a new emphasis on safety for the 2007 season.
[edit] Responsible Motorcyclists
FTR is a seen as a role model for other racing organizations in Florida, and even around the country. In 2006, FTR issued a 96 DB rule for Enduros, Harescrambles, and Quadscrambles. The regulation was placed due to the growing problem of noise from competition off-road vehicles, and the land closers due to it. For the 2008 season, FTR will require a USFS approved spark arrestors for all vehicles competing in FTR Enduro, Harescramble, and Quadscramble events.
[edit] Past and Present Presidents
Florida Trail Riders first president was Jim Hine(1971-1972). FTR's current president is Randy Faul.
