A major east-west highway in the Miami metropolitan area, State Road 934 currently extends from a point west of the Palmetto Expressway (SR 826) in Medley to SR A1A in Miami Beach, and construction of an extension westward to the Homestead Extension of Florida's Turnpike (SR 821) is on its way . State Road 934 is known by a variety of names as it crosses Hialeah Gardens, Hialeah, Liberty City, Miami, North Bay Village, and Miami Beach: Northwest 74th Street, Hialeah Expressway, West 21st Street, East 21st Street, Northwest 79th Street, Northeast 79th Street, Northwest 82nd Street, Northeast 82nd Street (79th and 82nd/81st Streets form a one-way pair in Miami), 79th Street Causeway, John F. Kennedy Causeway, Normandy Drive, and 71st Street (the last two form a one-way pair on Normandy Isle in Miami Beach).

[edit] About the One-way pair on the Mainland

79th Street and 81st/82nd Streets don't actually form a one-way pair on the mainland . It's actually 3 eastbound lanes and a westbound lane on 79th Street and 2 westbound lanes on 81st/82nd Street . 82nd/81st Street is the main 934 Westbound with no businesses on it , trucks are not allowed on the street . 79th Street westbound is mainly for the business loop and trucks . 82nd Street and 79th Street split just after crossing the western drawbridge . They rejoin a little bit west of Northwest 12th Ave .

[edit] John F. Kennedy Causeway

State Road 934 crosses Biscayne Bay on the John F. Kennedy Causeway which is a causeway that crosses on 4 islands and has two drawbridges . The western causeway is usually the one to open and broke down in October or September 2007 . This may mean it's getting old or needs to be replaced , hopefully a high bridge instead of a drawbridge .

[edit] Hialeah Expressway

Despite its name, the Hialeah Expressway, a limited access stretch of SR 934 between Northwest 72nd Avenue (SR 969) and Red Road (West 4th Avenue), doesn’t have any complete interchanges. Between at-grade intersections at the end of the Expressway, its “interchanges” include a single westbound off ramp onto Northwest 74th Street near Northwest 69th Avenue, a half diamond with US 27 (SR 25) and an at-grade intersection with West 12th Avenue. Signage along Hialeah Expressway is minimal as only the westbound off ramp onto US 27 (Okeechobee Road) has a sign with the destination street on it.

[edit] Notable places

Notable places along SR 934 east of the Hialeah Expressway include Hialeah Park (the former Hialeah Race Track) and Hialeah Hospital, while most of the street is lined with businesses. Two Metrorail stations (Hialeah and Tri-Rail) are adjacent to SR 934, and two more (Okeechobee and Palmetto) are located within three blocks of the state highway. From Northwest 79th Street/West 25th Street, the Miami Amtrak station can be accessed via Northwest 37th Avenue (Douglas Road).
