Florida State Road 704

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Also known as Okeechobee Boulevard, State Road 704 is a major east-west boulevard in the West Palm Beach area. Its western terminus is an intersection with SR 7 near Royal Palm Beach; its eastern terminus is an intersection with SR A1A in Palm Beach. Along its route are Century Village, West Palm Beach, and the Intracoastal Waterway (SR 704 crosses Lake Worth by going over the Royal Park Bridge). It serves as the major link connecting downtown West Palm Beach (in which SR 704 is formed by the one-way pair of Okeechobee Road and Lakeview Avenue), Interstate 95 (SR 9), Haverhill, and The Acreage.

West of the western terminus of SR 704, Okeechobee Boulevard continues for another six miles until an intersection with Seminole Pratt Whitney Road near Wellington. Just beyond the end of Okeechobee Boulevard (but accessible only from Southern Boulevard, US 98-US 441/SR 80) is Lion Country Safari, a zoological park through which visitors drive instead of walk.

[edit] State Road 704A, currently Palm Beach County Road 704A

Locally known as Australian Avenue, the former State Road 704A, now Palm Beach County Road 704A, is a limited access road connecting SR 704 (Okeechobee Road) in West Palm Beach with US 98/SR 80 (Southern Boulevard) and SR 807 (Congress Avenue) in Glen Ridge. The southernmost 1.4 miles serve Palm Beach International Airport. North of its interchange with SR 704, Australian Avenue continues along the eastern shores of Clear Lake and Lake Mangonia, then northward as a surface road, passing through Mangonia Park before reaching its northern terminus, an intersection with Blue Heron Boulevard (SR 708) in Rivera Beach.
