Florida Seafood Festival
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Florida Seafood Festival, Florida's oldest maritime exhibit, [1] is an annual, public event held in Apalachicola, Florida on the first weekend of November. The festival draws upwards of 15,000 tourists to this small port city at the mouth of the Apalachicola River.
Most of the festival is under the shady oaks of Battery Park in downtown Apalachicola. The festivities begin Friday with the Blessing of the Fleet and arrival of Miss Florida seafood and King Retsyo (that's "oyster", backwards) followed by Live entertainment. [2]
Saturday begins early with the 5K Red Fish Run, the parade, then an oyster shucking contest after lunch followed by an oyster eating contest. There are Crab races for children under 12. Live entertainment plays all afternoon with the headliner performing in the evening.[3] Exhibits, arts & crafts booths, and of course, plenty of delicious seafood is available all day.[4]
