Flinders Island (South Australia)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Flinders Island (33°43′S, 134°29′E[1]) is an island in the Investigator Group off the coast of South Australia.

The island is named after Samuel Flinders, brother of Matthew Flinders.[2]

The island has recently been the attention of active diamond exploration following the discovery of a wide range of kimberlite indicator minerals on the island.[3] These minerals include chromite, pyrope, diopside, picroilmenite, forsterite, orthopyroxene, as well as eight small diamonds.
