Welcome!

Welcome to Wikipedia, Flehmen! My name is Ryan, aka Acetic Acid. I noticed that you were new and haven't received any messages yet. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it uses different formatting than other sites that use HTML and CSS. In the long run, though, you'll find that the WikiSyntax is a lot easier and faster than those other ways. Here are a few links to get you started:

There are a lot of policies and guides to read, but I highly recommend reading over those first. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Please be sure to sign your name on Talk Pages using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, along with a link to your user page. This way, others know when you left a message and how to find you. It's easier than having to type out your name, right? :)

I hope you enjoy contributing to Wikipedia. We can use all the help we can get! Have a nice day. Sincerely, Acetic Acid 02:13, August 19, 2005 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for the message. Glad to see you looked over the guidelines. They come in handy. :) I saw some of your edits. So far, everything seems okay. I just have one little comment. I see you added a couple of external links to the eyepiece article. That's great, but they all seem point to direct readers to the same information. External links are usually the sources you used to write the article. If you used research from any other sites, you might want to add those instead.
A place with newbies and vets? Hmm.... well, there is always Clueless Newbies, but only use that as a last resort. There is the Village Pump, where you can discuss any technical problems with more experienced users.
Oh, and thanks for the hint about posting my username. I never realized that. Normally, I don't have to worry about it because I can also use three or four tildes, but I'm sure I'll have to put it to good use in the future. See you around! Acetic Acid 21:39, August 19, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Adminship

Fleh: Thank you for supporting my nomination for adminship. I received many votes from editors that I encounter frequently, which is re-assuring, but I am honoured that you and others that I don't know through Wikipedia saw fit to support the nomination. The admin powers will enable me to patrol for vandals more effectively, amongst other things. I promise to use my new powers for good, and not to inflict the retribution on my enemies that they so richly deserve, as tempting as that may be. ;-) Thanks again, Kevin. Actually, it was a string of events that happened to lead me to your adminship vote. As you may have noticed above Acetic Acid gave me a nice welcome. I went over to thank him and read over his talk page. Well, his comments on you lead me to your talk page and to Astrotrain on your adminship page. I wanted to find out why you were such a "Nazi" what with Canada being my home and a special love of mine.
As usual, since there was no comment by Astrotrain as to a reason you are so horrid it turns out that you were being far too reasonible with him. That got me interested in voting for you just to cancel out his vote. So I did some searching around and read up on ya. You got my vote because you obviously have done some work here and maintained a very level head in a few discussions. Congratz on your adminship. Flehmen 18:36, 22 August 2005 (UTC)
