Description

A single-manual Flemish harpsichord of the Ruckers school, signed Marc Ducornet, Paris 2003 [1]. GG-d’’’, 56 notes + 1 note for 440 position, 2X8’, buff stop, traditional Flemish keyboard with bone slipped naturals and arcades with leather decoration. Stop levers through the nameboard. Decorative rose on the soundboard. Length 209 cm, width 85.8 cm, weight about 55 kg. Painted throughout by Alison Woolley Bukghalter of Florence [2], with designs based on the Claviorganum by Lodewyk Theewes of 1579 in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London [3], being faux-iron strapwork on an ox-blood base, the inside of the lid with sphinx, birds, a monkey, and an oval picture of Orpheus taming the animals in a mountainous landscape. On an oak stand based on a painting Portrait de famille by Gillis van Tilborgh, ca 1650-1675, in the Musées Royaux des Beaux-Arts et d'Archéologie, Brussels [4].
