This personal site, Weird Milk Facts, cites the 29 August 1998 New Scientist as the source for the story.

On a personal note, I went to the Whangarei Woolworths while on my honeymoon. I didn't see any milk-flavored milk. ;) JordeeBec 23:05, 25 April 2006 (UTC)
