[edit] Tricolor Flag
Who is the author of the Tricolor flag? Does it have any chance to become the Flag of Kosovo? msvj 11.6.2007
A tricolour flag of red, blue and yellow with a tick appears to be the campaign banner for the kosovo elections, the colours correspond to the 3 colours of the ballot papers for assembly, municipal and mayoral elections.
Hope this helps. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dn9ahx (talk • contribs) 23:14, 25 November 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Stars
The article does not explain what the six stars represent. The article states that one of the three earlier designs had 5 stars to represent the different ethnic groups in Kosovo. The adopted flag has 6, do these also represent ethnic groups? And if so, which group is the 'new' sixth group? Grunners (talk) 20:20, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
- That's what I was going to ask about. The symbols and colours should be clearly explained. NorthernThunder (talk) 21:48, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
EuroNews of Al Jazeera News (i forget which) reported that the stars stand for the 6 ethnic groups that live in kosovo, no info about what those groups are - i will re-watch the channels to identify the correct source). Dn9ahx (talk) 22:03, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
I have found a written reference for the stars Yahoo news Dn9ahx (talk) 23:41, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
- That URL will probably only remain valid for about a month... AnonMoos (talk) 23:54, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
- Based on the ethnic map, Serbs, Bosniaks, Albanians, Gorani, Turks and Roma. Chris (クリス • フィッチ) (talk) 00:43, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- Presumably you are referring to Image:Kosovo ethnic 2005.png.--Pharos (talk) 02:23, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- this map is distribution by communities (cities) not total. There's still strong resemblance of six star to six countries where albanian people live —Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.200.156.218 (talk) 20:02, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

I've looked through the OSCE Mission in Kosovo documents, and they consistently mention these six groups, sometimes adding the Ashkali and/or the Egyptians (Balkans). I couldn't find a copy of their 2005 census, though.--Pharos (talk) 17:12, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm... This article suggests that one of the stars may stand for the "RAE" community; that is, a joint grouping of Roma, Ashkali and Egyptians.--Pharos (talk) 17:20, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- I heard on the news that they represent the ethnic groups but rumors have been going on that they represent the 6 countries populated with albanians (albania, kosovo, montenegro, macedonia, serbia, greece) ,might be just rumors though --Cradel 20:08, 19 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, someone added that to the article, but I removed it because, well it's just a rumor not backed by WP:RS.--Pharos (talk) 20:39, 19 February 2008 (UTC)

- Roma, Ashkali and Egytians are also called "Gypsy" —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.164.240.26 (talk) 12:40, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
I deleted this statement (with "reference" of a sort) as I find it highly subjective and inflammatory: "However, many feel that the stars represent each territory that extremist Albanians desire to fashion into a "Greater Albania" [1]."
The article linked does not explain who it is that supposedly suspects this extreme nationalism in the flag. Also it says "some", while the statement above says "many", which is in itself a way to grossly overplay the un-verified statement in the article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 194.52.83.21 (talk) 08:28, 29 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] white/blue/yellow is familiar
The colours are the same as the Flag of Bosnia, as mentioned in the intro - is there any reason why the government chose these colours? Do they hold any significance? BalkanFever 09:02, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- Most importantly it is not the coulour-scheme of any of the ethnic groups, and so is a nice neutral option. Those exact coulours were probably chosen because they mirror the European flag, and represent Kosovo's aim to be an integral part of European institutions. Grunners (talk) 10:39, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
- Also - from the Flag of Bosnia article - they are "colours often associated with neutrality and peace" Grunners (talk) 10:41, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
It also resembles the flag of Democratic Republic of Congo used between 1997 and 2006, which was deep blue with six yellow stars down the hoist and a larger yellow star in the centre. Why is this important? It implies there's some sort of relationship, other than merely looking similar. Who cares? --12.119.210.194 (talk) 17:57, 18 February 2008 (UTC)
[edit] New flag of Kosovo
The map on the current flag image seems too small. I made two new temporary suggestions which seem to be closer to the truth:
- Image:Kosovo State Flag.png (gold)
- Image:Kosovo State Flag-1.png (yellow)
--Camptown (talk) 23:35, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- I personally fixed the height of the stars and map together to match that image, but not the width. Honestly, I am using the colors from the Bosnia flag. I need a construction sheet; I am about to mail the Kosovo Government for one. User:Zscout370 (Return Fire) 19:03, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] KPC flag
any particular reason why the flag of the Kosovo Protection Corps is listed as an "alternative flag"? According to the article linked, the KPC is a "civilian emergency services". This doesn't make it sound as if the flag had any official status. Some source will have to be cited in any case. --dab (𒁳) 17:24, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
