Flashback is a dangerous situation occurring during the use of an acetylene torch. The flame burns backwards into the hose, causing a popping or squealing noise. It can cause an explosion in the hose that injures or kills the user. Using a lower pressure than recommended can cause flashback, but it can be prevented with a flashback arrestor.
