Flamingo Elementary School is an elementary school which is part of the Miami-Dade County Public Schools. The school was built in 1955 over a swamp, while the city of Hialeah was still growing. It was named South Hialeah Elementary for several until its name was changed to Flamingo Elementary. Claudia J. Hessing is the principal, with Ileana Sotolongo as the assistant principal. The school is an A school, and has been given many grants by large corporations for achievements in education. The school is the only school in the county to have a class which does all coursework on the computer. It is also a NASA Explorer School.
