The flag of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania consists of three vertical stripes (blue, yellow, blue), with the city coat of arms across the center of the yellow stripe. The seal and arms were adopted by the city in 1874. The blue and yellow colors commemorate the original Swedish colonization of Philadelphia. Two female figures stand on the left and right side of the central crest. The woman in purple holds a scroll, while the women in blue, the Goddess Ceres, holds a cornucopia. Above the crest, a hand is holding the scales of justice. With several official designs, another variant of the flag does not have the coat of arms in the center.[1]
