Flag of Adygea
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The flag of Adygea consists of a green background, a symbol of the Muslim faith; the 12 stars recall the tribes of Adygeans, united in the 19th century in the struggle for independence from Imperial Russia. The top nine stars which stand in an arc stand for the nine "aristocratic" tribes, and the three horizontal stars stand for the three "democratic" tribes. The arrows originally symbolized the brotherhood and bravery of those tribes; today they symbolize the brotherhood and unity of all sub-nationalities in Adygea.
The flag was originally drawn in 1830 by the British delegate David Urquhart. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the flag was again adopted for the new republic on March 24, 1992.
