Daugava Rīga was the strongest football team in Latvia for several decades while Latvia was part of the USSR. Around the time when Latvia regained independence the team ceased to exist, a new Daugava Rīga appeared again in 1996 when former Amstrig Rīga changed it name. In 1998 the team changed name to LU/Daugava, then dissolved after the 1998 season, to return in 2000 after having joined Policijas FK as PFK Daugava, but after the 2000 season the team ceased to exist. Therefore this FK Daugava Rīga theoretically is either the 3rd incarnation of the same team or a new team with much less importance than the previous two --Kazhe (talk) 14:24, 19 December 2007 (UTC)
