Five by Five was the promotional EP for The Verve's 1997 album Urban Hymns. The EP was released in the June of 1997, over three months before the actual album was released. The title is presumably a reference to both the number of tracks on the EP and to Simon Tong, who had become the band's fifth member. Of these five tracks, only one was to be a single ("Lucky Man"); but all of them appeared on the album. There are psychedelic rock jams such as "The Rolling People" and "Come On" as well as Britpop style pieces ("Lucky Man", "Space and Time") on the EP. These five songs were the five completed first in the recording sessions (apart from the single releases).
The EP is quite rare, but not nearly as rare as other Verve EPs such as Voyager 1. The CD version was issued in a full jewel case picture sleeve. The picture on the front cover of the EP was used in the second page of the Urban Hymns sleeve booklet.
