FitTV is a digital cable channel of Discovery Communications. The channel focuses on fitness and exercise-related programming. FitTV offers programming with such fitness celebrities as: Cathe Friedrich, Sharon Mann, Gilad, Marilu Henner, Tamilee Webb and others. The network's logo is also known for its alternating colors.

The channel has approximately 35 million subscribers following Cablevision's April 2006 decision to drop FitTV resulting in the loss of 3 million New York subscribers.[1]

[edit] History

In 1993, FitTV was launched as "Cable Health Club" as part of Tim and Pat Robertson's International Family Entertainment Inc, which also then owned the Family Channel (now ABC Family). Jake Steinfeld, who had starred on the network's Big Brother Jake, was a constant presence on the channel in its early years.

In 1999, News Corp.'s Fox Cable Networks Group bought FitTV and merging it with "America's Health Network" naming the resulting network "The Health Network".

In September 2001, Discovery Communications bought "The Health Network" for $255 million in cash and equity.[2] Shortly afterward, Discovery reinstated the "FitTV" name.
