[edit] I added something

in the discussion of the caption of that Merchant Marine photo that might, or might not help. Check it out and see what you think. It does not really change the caption of the photo, though, which i think is just something along the lines of "Merchant Marines, North Atlantic, WWII", which is what and where the picture is. The possibility that the shot was "staged" by the crew is, in my mind, running about 97.5%, but it is still what the caption claims. Does this help? can I do more? [edit] Maritime trades invite

Pan pan. Pan pan. Pan pan. Attention all vessels. This is WikiProject Maritime Trades. Please be advised that the project has been created to improve the quality and coverage of articles related to shipping and the diverse maritime trades. Assistence is requested. This is Maritime Trades standing by on Channel 16.

Hi Fishdecoy, based on your comments at the USMM article, I thought this might be of interest! Cheers. Haus42 01:25, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Aloha!

Hey, thanks for the nice note this morning, and for the copy-edits! Trust that I cringe every time I put in a he/him, but turning a 500-line list where every line starts: "The officer..." into prose is a challenge :). If you'd like to announce yourself and the stuff you're working on at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Maritime_Trades, I'm sure you can get a little feedback as well as helping to build some momentum for the project. Cheers. Haus42 22:04, 31 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bilgepumper's Barnstar

On behalf of Maritime Trades, I hereby award the Bilge-pumper's Barnstar to Fishdecoy for relentless copy-edits and general improvement of United States Merchant Marine, Third Mate, Second Mate, Chief Mate, Captain (nautical), United States Merchant Marine, Sailor, List of notable American mariners, among other articles. Good work, shipmate!

Cheers! Haus42 14:45, 1 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks much for the editing barnstar! The image reminds me of one of my tasks as an ordinary on an ocean tug: stripping to my skivvies, then crawling beneath cross members in a bilge to clean out the muck. Somebody has to do it.

[edit] I tripped over this...

and thought it's right up your alley: 45 pages of references on Women in Maritime History. Cheers. HausTalk 04:15, 4 April 2007 (UTC)

Roger on that! Thanks.--Fishdecoy 02:27, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Wire_rope_eye_splice.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:Wire_rope_eye_splice.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.

As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 08:24, 7 July 2007 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. OsamaK 08:24, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Seafarers Int'l Union

Hey R -- I saw you banging on the SIU article and it inspired me to pitch in. That article's always been a rock in my shoe and it's nice to see it coming along. If you need any help, or need me to stay the ($%^(^$% away from it for awhile, please don't hesitate to let me know. :) Cheers. HausTalk 15:46, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

    • I appreciate the collaboration! I am intrigued as I learn more about the early years years of martime unions. Whew! I don't know how I would have fared shipping out during those head-banging years. Talk about coming up through the hawsepipe! Fishdecoy (talk) 00:25, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
