[edit] About me

I'm Fishingcat (also known as Tim), based in Southampton, United Kingdom, and have been a Wikipedian since May 2006. Although I've been using the website for a number of years now, it was only after my inner pedant led me to register in order to correct some typo's, that I became more involved. The vast wealth of information that you can access for free, and the dedication of both editors and admins never ceases to amaze me, and I've been known to spend a good few hours engrossed in articles before returning, blinking, into the real world.

[edit] Wikipedia philosophy

Various academics for well-known printed encyclopedias have tried to discredit the fantastic work done on Wikipedia over the last few years, and while WP is not without it's faults, the community spirit and breadth of information cannot be ignored or replicated in a printed format. What other encyclopedia do you know that is updated and published in real time and contains such disparate entries? And not least, access to Wikipedia is free. As we fully embrace the freedom that the digital age brings throughout the 21st century, should we really be charging for such information?? A slippery slope I feel...

[edit] Interests on Wikipedia

Apart from general cleanup on SPAG, layout and readability across the site, I'm interested in the world of digital media and technology.
