About Me: Hi! My name is Peter. I’m a year 12 student living in East Gippsland, Victoria, Australia. I had been using Wikipedia as a reference source for ages, but it wasn't until September 2004 that I started actually contributing to Wikipedia. �My main field of interest and contribution to the project is in photography. Although I’ll take a photo of pretty much anything, my favourite area of photography is macro work - particularly now I’ve got a dedicated macro lens and flash unit! Beyond contributing to Wikipedia I’ve also had my images published in several publications. I am skilled in Photoshop and in particular enhancing photos. I fully support cloning in images as long as the main content of the image is not significantly altered. I graduated from SCSC in 2007 as dux (admittedly there were only three of us!) and am doing a double degree in Aerospace and Law at Monash University starting in 2008. As well as photography and academics, I also enjoy sports and athletics.

[edit] My Camera

Most of my photos have been taken with the Canon 20D, though images before early 2005 were taken with a humble Kodak LS633. Over the last two years I've built up quite an arsenal of lenses and other photographic equipment.

Tamron SP AF 28-75mm F/2.8 XR Di My first lens, it was my work horse for almost a year but now is rarely used as it's been largely superseded by more expensive Canon glass. That said it was and still is a terrific lens for the price - packing in a large aperture, everyday zoom range, basic macro and good sharpness.
Canon 17-40mm f/4 L My second lens and first L. A nice wide-angle lens for landscapes etc
Canon 85mm f/1.8 a lovely low light prime
Canon 70-200mm f/2.8 L A truly superb lens, with excellent sharpness and rapid autofocus. The sharpness is so good that even coupled with my Canon EF 1.4x II TC photos are very sharp at full res.
Sigma 150mm f/2.8 EX A very nice macro lens.
Canon MT-24 EX This flash makes macro photography so much easier
Canon 580EX II Speedlite - all round shoe flash (I've also got a softbox for this which I used to use for macro photography before I got the MT-24EX)

A side effect to the above is that after shelling out thousands to buy professional photographic equipment I've come to the point where I hope to earn some money from my work. I still fully support the concept of giving free knowledge to everyone in the world through Wikipedia, but I strongly dislike the idea that Wikipedia is a free stock site for people to grab my hard earned photos and sell them off at a profit with little else than a credit line for me. For this reason I choose to only upload images at 1600x1067 pixels in size (a few at 1280x960) to retain the right to sell my images at higher res for a small fee. Until Wikipedia embraces a non-commercial license this will continue to be the case.

Nature's Pics Online which describes itself as "A Guide to Amateur Wildlife Photography" contains some sensational photographs. Luckily for Wikipedia, Alan D. Wilson (photographer) has generously offered high res images for use on Wikipedia. I have contacted him and he has emailed me several photos. Hopefully this partnership can continue.
