[edit] Subst?

Is the intention that this template and {{Limited overs international}}should be "subst:"ed into article when the matches are complete? As far as I can see, this is the only way to deal with teams not batting twice (drawn games, teams being required to following on, winning by an innings, etc). -- ALoan (Talk) 11:11, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

I'm not sure what went wrong here... Hidden structure? -- ALoan (Talk) 11:29, 20 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] No second innings

How do we deal with this situation? See here for example. Can't work out what to do. Shadow007 15:15, 1 May 2006 (UTC)

Yeah, it's a bit tricky. You need to write {{subst:First class matches as the first line, and then submit. That will give you a table you can manually edit to remove the apostrophes and empty links. Sam Vimes 15:57, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
See my comment in the immediately preceding section - substing is the best way, I think. -- ALoan (Talk) 22:32, 1 May 2006 (UTC)
Yep. Perhaps it's best to remove the hidden structure hack as well, then? Sam Vimes 06:31, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
I'm not sure what you are talking about, I am afraid... -- ALoan (Talk) 10:34, 2 May 2006 (UTC)
With the current system, it's possible to write in any result you want (assuming 4 innings was played), by putting "other result = true |" inside the syntax, and then "result = match drawn |". In the cases where the match has a winner, the way is to do "winning team = England |" and "win margin = "innings and 198 runs |". But since it has to be substed in so many cases, it might be best to avoid this way of doing it altogether and just use subst to do it all the time? Sam Vimes 11:12, 2 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Other situations...

How can this template deal with the following:

  • Redirects? There are many players whose articles are dabbed with "Foo (cricketer)", and the template doesn't seem to be able to handle it. Also, several cities, as well as a few cricket grounds, are also dabbed in one way or another (e.g., "Centurion, South Africa" for the "Centurion" where the cricket ground is located). Update: I wasn't thinking about how the template works. Never mind the deal with the players; just put the name with the dab in the "full name" section, I know. Still, there is a problem when a city or ground has to be dabbed. — Dale Arnett 09:07, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
  • Muslim names? I'm specifically thinking here of Pakistani names. Cricinfo does not use the "IM Cricketer" style for Pakistanis that it uses for cricketers from other countries, instead listing them by their full names. I shudder to think what would happen with a name like line Inzamam-ul-Haq. Update: Again, didn't think through it myself! Just put the full name in the "initial form" entry. D'oh! ‚ Dale Arnett 09:07, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Just wondering if anyone's thought through these issues. — Dale Arnett 16:51, 20 January 2007 (UTC) Well, I'm definitely guilty of foot-in-mouth disease here!  :) — Dale Arnett 09:07, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

Hope this clears up some confusion. Blackhole77 22:40, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

I believe it was I who posted that on the Bermudian tour of Kenya page? That was made using the original template, just substituting it in and then editing the code so as to remove anything about the second Kenyan innings which didn't take part: this is explained further up the page. Using {{subst:}} method is pretty straight forward, to be honest; and providing you fill in all the information you want beforehand it's almost all done for you. AllynJ 01:07, 11 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Joint bests?

What should be done if more than one player shares the top score in an innings, or the best bowling? Loganberry (Talk) 00:03, 12 May 2007 (UTC)

For batting, I go by whomever was not out first. If both are out/not out, then by strike rate (or by balls faced, same result, though I'm sure you know).
For bowling, I go for economy rate, then, if the same, whomever bowled the most overs. If not that then whomever gave away the least extras.
These are just personal rules, but they make sense to me anyway. AllynJ 00:06, 12 May 2007 (UTC)
