[edit] Name of church

The Methodist Episcopal Church, South split in 1844 from the Methodist Episcopal Church over the issue of slavery. The word Episcopal in their names referred to the fact that they had bishops. They were not part of the Episcopal Church. They reunited in 1939 as The Methodist Church and later became the United Methodist Church. The Umatilla church was listed on the National register as Methodist Episcopal Church, South, at Umatilla, also known as First United Methodist Church of Umatilla. Somehow the article got named South Methodist Episcopal Church at Umatilla, which was completely wrong. Anyway, I have renamed the article to reflect the current name, which is the most easily understand. clariosophic (talk) 03:41, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
