[edit] Combustion Technique Clarification

The combustion ability is currently described as creating explosions through super-heating air. Going from my own observations, that seems somewhat inaccurate, as it appears that the Combustion Man's beam causes matter to explode on contact. True, he's fired it into a point of space and created an open-air explosion, but he's also used it destroy objects directly, making it a difficult ability to take cover from (since the cover itself can blow up in your face). [edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Iroh as DragonIntotheWest.jpg

Image:Iroh as DragonIntotheWest.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

[edit] Day of Black Sun Spoilers

There is a potential spoiler in the lightning section. It says Ozai can bend lightning. However, the claim is either an illegal spoiler from the Day of Black Sun episode or speculation. Either way, it needs to be removed. 68.175.106.168 (talk) 04:12, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

November 18th? Completely not worth the fuss. SteveG (talk) 13:34, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Other Abilities

[edit] Contact Heat

Shouldn't we mention that fire-benders can heat things they contact, without having to create a traveling flame? The examples I can think of are:

  • Iroh heating up his restraints to distract an Earth Kingdom soldier.
  • Iroh heating up his tea at an Earth Kingdom train station. Granted, we didn't see how Iroh did it, but we could assume that contact heat was used since the method was so subtle that only two people noticed. That'd probably exclude a flame under the cup.
  • Jeong Jeong igniting the leaf he had Aang focus on for fire-bending training.
  • Zuko cutting through ice during the Siege in the North. He was underwater at the time, so he definitely didn't use a traveling flame.

[edit] Heat Drain/Transfer

A recent episode showed a flashback of Fire Lord Sozin cooling off lava by transferring the heat away from the lava pit and away from his body, like how Iroh redirects lightening. It seemed that he needed a bit of prep time.

[edit] Prisoners

Maybe a description of prisons the Fire Nation uses for fire-benders could be added. (We found this out through Iroh, who can do flames, lightening, and contact heat.)

Sounds like a good thing to add. 71.168.85.188 01:22, 11 November 2007 (UTC) Fantasy Leader

[edit] Examples of Fighting Styles

I can see below, that there are three different fighting styles for Firebending. Can anyone give us some examples of when they are performed, and who uses them? 71.168.85.188 01:22, 11 November 2007 (UTC) Fantasy Leader

Come on! Doesn't anybody know when the three forms are used? I can't tell which is which. 216.204.100.226 (talk) 20:18, 20 November 2007 (UTC) Fantasy Leader
What does it matter anyway? If you really want to know, just look up videos of each art and decide for yourself. At least try to make an effort. The style they use is a mix of all three. I would say when they do lots of flips and wide arching kicks they are doing northern Shaolin. When they are in close quarters combat, they use xingyi and and dragon claw. They also seem to use xingyi when they rapidly punch forward in a straight line to release a volley of fireballs. --Ghostexorcist (talk) 22:00, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

I DID make an effort. However, I didn't look up videos on the actual martial arts. I looked up the "Avatar Creating the Legend" videos. They only mentioned Northern Shaolin. I had no idea it was a mix of three arts. I kind've got a bit skeptical if there were three forms or not. Anyway, thanks. I get it now. 71.181.61.96 (talk) 20:27, 22 November 2007 (UTC) Fantasy Leader

[edit] lion turtels....

ok, the lion turtles aren´t show in the series so far. but its so often mentioned so it could be something of a legend or a sort of....There are also many statues .... I know this is just a guess, but all the other elements got animals: badgermole earthbending, bisons airbending, moon and eventually sea serpents( ok, this was my guess xD, but still, the moon was mentioned to be the first and so wasn´t sun). I hope you got my point^^.

Air has airbisons. Earth has badgermoles. Fire has dragons. At this point, I'm not sure about water, but my guess is carp since the original water benders, the moon and the ocean, also exist in the sacred pool (Siege of the North) as carp. WMSmith (talk) 04:21, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

They said that the waterbenders learned from the moon. THEY SAID THAT. Rau J16 11:40, 20 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Discrepancy between Blue Firebending and Lightening

In the third paragraph of 'Fighting Style', the text dictates blue firebending that's 'not to be confused with lightening'. However, there's an entire section dedicated to Lightening, which describes just what the former section refutes. So, which is it? I always thought it was lightening, and have called it as such, but whoever edited the 'fighting style' section had some sort of hunch that this wasn't the case. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ddrmast3r (talk • contribs) 04:57, 2 December 2007 (UTC)

Azula's firebending uses blue flames, which are hotter and more intense than regular orange flames. She also can create lightning, which is electricity, not fire. These are two separate techniques of firebending. Iroh's flames are orange, but he also can create lightning. --Herald Alberich 05:29, 2 December 2007 (UTC)
Yes, blue fire and lightning are not teh same thing. Therefore, they have to be TWO SEPERATE TECHNIQUES. I thought that would be obvious, but this article says otherwise. -TDF- —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.25.3.129 (talk) 17:02, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Aang?

I've noticed that we have Aang on the notable firebenders list. I'm not sure we can classify him as such, he only firebent in one episode, and that was not under control. He has since sworn to never fire bend again. Should we keep him up there or take him down until he actually starts to learn firebending? Ub3rn008 (talk) 23:10, 9 December 2007 (UTC)

Check out the episode "The Guru". To paraphrase what Guru Pathik tells Aang in response to Aang's declaration that he will never firebend again: Aang is the Avatar, and therefore a firebender. SteveG (talk) 13:31, 29 December 2007

SPOILER!!!! You know he does learn firebending, he accepted Zuko as his master, so.... and he is the avatar, but I thnik we should dd him, when he really learns firebending. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 213.47.129.184 (talk) 19:04, 19 December 2007 (UTC)

He is the avatar, so he's an air, wind, water and fire bender. Just because he hasn't been firebending doesn't negate the fact that he has the innate ability to firebend. -TDF- —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.25.3.129 (talk) 17:04, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Actually, no avatar other than one who was a notable fire bender before becoming the avatar belongs down there. Meaning the only avatar that goes down there is Roku. Rau's talk 18:18, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Introduction of sub-skills

As well as in the article about Waterbending, it says that "each of the four bending arts has a sub-skill which only few can achieve". While I know that there's a source for that, a sub-skill for Airbending has never been shown in a canon source, which invalidates that sentence. Until said sub-skill for Airbending is shown, the introduction of that section should be changed. 189.32.157.17 (talk) 16:15, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Just because the sub-skill hasn't been shown doesn't mean there isn't one. The other three Bending Arts have them, why wouldn't Airbending?

The fact that the sub-skill for Airbending hasn't been shown doesn't invalidate the claim that there are four Bending sub-skills. His royal majesty, Lord Holy Ono (talk) 18:18, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Not that there are four Bending sub-skills, but the all main bending arts have sub-skills.201.17.77.159 (talk) 15:51, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

But until it is shown, wouldn't it be better to keep it on the safe side? 189.32.157.17 (talk) 19:11, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

Maybe it HAS been shown, but we don't know otherwise, as Aang is the only Airbender. For all we know, any of the abilities he has could be part of a seriously advanced sub-skill. -TDF- —Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.25.3.129 (talk) 17:09, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

The closest thing of a Airbending sub-skill seen on-screen was the really high whistle use in Tales of Ba Sing Se. 201.17.77.159 (talk) 15:51, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Lava manipulation

  • Under the special techniques section, should lava manipulation be placed under there? The Official site once mentioned that Avatar level firebenders could control lava flows. --Xepeyon (talk) 20:48, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

=It's already mentioned in the beginning of the page, no need to bring it up again. 189.32.157.17 (talk) 22:13, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

= I don't see where it is mentioned. --willimblanco

In the fighting style section: Avatar level Firebenders are capable of erupting volcanoes at will and manipulating lava and magma flows. 201.37.60.119 (talk) 15:56, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] The Firebending Masters info

Shouldn't other information of the episode be mentioned as well? I know that the origin is there, and the dragon as the Firebending Animal too, but wouldn't be better if some of the Sun Warrior philosophy to be put in the spirituality part? And a mention to the Dancing Dragon form wouldn't be bad either. 189.32.157.17 (talk) 22:15, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Colors?

Should we mention that firebending in the form of other colors is possible? As shown in "The Firebending Masters." 71.181.76.56 (talk) 03:41, 7 January 2008 (UTC) Fantasy Leader

[edit] nature of firebending

In the weakness section it says "main weaknesses behind the art of Firebending are its confrontational nature and its connection to the sun. Due to its aggressive nature," With the new episode (#313) Aang learns the real meaning of firebending. He says firebedning is life and energy. We should change the view of firebending in the article. (willimblanco) —Preceding comment was added at 09:08, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] List of techniques

I see no reason such a list should be in there. It is not important infomation.

Naturally I welcome anyone who wishes to defend its placement, but just reverting it's not going to do any good. His royal majesty, Lord Holy Ono (talk) 21:31, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

I have to agree with you, the list is unnecessary. --Ghostexorcist (talk) 23:42, 7 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Does this really need its own article?

I hate to be "that guy", but does this really need its own article? I can't imagine it's notable, as it shows no hits on Google News or Scholar, and none of the refs are from non-primary sources.

Could the four types of bending be merged into one larger article? Already this article seems to be over-expanded - it could really stand to be trimmed and merged into a "Bending (Avatar)" or "Elemental Bending" article.

Thank you for your time. Not even Mr. Lister's Koromon survived intact. 18:05, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
