Talk:FireHouse (band)
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I would like to know the following:
I have a Billboard magazine that shows Love of a lifetime peaking at #4 on the chart and the other single "When I Look Into Your Eyes" as peaking at #3. I'm not 100% sure about this infomation. Can you help me, please.
I guess I'll answer my own question:
Love of a lifetime peaked at #5 on the Hot 100 Singles chart and When I Look Into Your Eyes peaked at #8 on the Hot 100 Singles chart.
If "Love of a lifetime" is a ripoff of Journey's Faithfully, then Firehouse did a better job with the single than Journey. "Love of a lifetime" went top five and Journey's Faithfully failed to break the top ten. Not bad for a ripoff.
Firehouse was America's favorite heavy metal band at one time. Let's not forget that they beat Nirvana for best new metal artist in 1992 at the American Music Awards. Now that's impressive.
Nirvana had successful albums- but only one hit on the Hot 100 Singles- Smells like Teen spirit.
- Wow....do we have a rather protective Firehouse fan here? Let's not get carried away - you may think Firehouse was "America's favorite heavy metal band at one time" but that is an opinion (POV) and many would argue that not only did Firehouse never earn that label, but they weren't even heavy metal. (Heavy metal != Hair band)
- Also, nobody compared Journey's "Faithfully" to Firehouse's "Love of a Lifetime".....they compared it to "When I LookInto Your Eyes". To suggest Firehouse "did a better" job with their imitation is again POV and is similiar to comparing apples to oranges. Faithfully wasn't released as a primary single for the Frontiers album so the chart doesn't tell the entire story. I think the fact that Faithfully is still continually played on mainstream radio stations and in clubs is probably a better indicator to which song had the real influence on popular culture, however again to proclaim who is "better" doesn't add anything to the article and is a simple POV. 151.151.21.104 20:48, 18 July 2006 (UTC)CostnerM
I have been a fan of Firehouse for 16 years and I know that Firehouse was successful from 1990-1996. Firehouse reached the top 5 with the ballad Love of a lifetime and When I look Into your eyes reached #8 and two more singles reached the top 40: Don't treat me bad reached #19. All She Wrote was hit.
Firehouse won the best new metal band category at the American Music Awards as voted by the fans. Nirvana was grunge and cannot be considered metal. Alice in Chains was part of the Seattle scene and cannot be labeled as Heavy metal. Alice in Chains was alternative.
As for the ballad "Faithfully" by Journey- it reached #12 on the Hot 100 Singles and both singles by Firehouse reached the top ten. Love of a lifetime reached #5 and When I look into your eyes reached #8.
My information is directly from Billboard.com and the American Music Awards website.
You cannot argue with facts and Firehouse was the best new metal band in early 90s and all you have to do is listen to the song "Overnight Sensation" and you will see why Firehouse is heavy metal.
Love of a lifetime was recently featured on Power Ballads gold and When I look into your eyes is featured on Monster Ballads. Clearly, When I look into your eyes and Love of a lifetime is the better power ballad.
As for Journey, they are better known for the song "Open Arms".
Last night, I took the opportunity to listen to both Journey's Faithfully and When I look into your eyes and I found no comparsion. I came to conclusion that When I look Into your eyes is better than Faithfully. When I look into your eyes is a great power ballad and it's easy to why the song reached the top ten and it's easy to see why Firehouse had two top 40 albums. Faithfully is a great love song and so is When I look into your eyes. I am a fan of both Firehouse and Journey. When I look into your eyes is nothing like Faithfully. I didn't hear any similarities.
However, the best power ballad would have to be Motley Crue's Home Sweet Home.
Firehouse was featured in Metal Edge frequently- a heavy metal magazine.
Obviously, in 1991, at the American Music Awards, people believed that Firehouse was the best new heavy metal band and they were voted for the award. After listening to the debut album, I can see why.
I took the time to listen to Faithfully last night and I think Firehouse did a better job with the power ballad- When I look into your eyes.
Journey's claim to fame was the song- Open Arms.
Frontiers wasn't even the best album from Journey- it was Escape.
I didn't mean to sound over-protective. I was just looking at the facts. Firehouse did win the American Music award for best new hard rock/metal band and since Alice in Chains is alternative and Nirvana is grunge- the right choice was made when Firehouse won. Don't forget that this award was awarded by the fans. Firehouse received the most votes.

[edit] They performed again
They performed at the Bratfest in Sheyboygan in 2006. The same one where Kobayashi Takeru and Sonya the Black Widow were in. Anyone going to add this is? Just wondering...
