First to Leave is a pop-punk/melodic hardcore band from suburbs of San Francisco. The band originally consisted of Mike Stearns on guitar, Tony Torres on bass, Murtaza Sajjad on drums, and Matt Foster on vocals. They formed in 2002, though having previous line-ups and sounds before Matt Foster joining, First to Leave became official that year. Zack Lindenberg joined later in 2005 and played guitar.

The band recorded a demo 7" in 2004 on their friend's record label Culdesac Records. With that release, they gained a decent following in the San Francisco bay area punk/hardcore scene playing with such bands as Killing the Dream, Life Long Tragedy, Daggermouth, Barricade, Final Fight, Dangers, Set It Straight, Gunsmoke, The Starting Point, Changing Face, and many more.

They later recorded a full-length album entitled Change Never Lasts in 2005 on Straight On Records which has an alumni of bands such as The Warriors, Set Your Goals, Final Fight, Go It Alone, More To Pride and more.

First to Leave was signed to Lobster Records in 2006 and have currently finished their Lobster Records debut. It was recorded at Magpie cage studios in Baltimore with producer J. Robbins. Their newest album, Forging a Future, was released on iTunes on April 10th, 2007. After recording the album the three original members Tony, Murtaza, and Mike parted ways with First to Leave.

In July 2007, First to Leave signed on with Wednesday Records to re-release their album Forging a Future, which has an official physical release shelf date of October 9th, 2007.
