First Second Books

First Second Books is an American publisher of graphic novels that are innovative, daring, and entertaining. An imprint of Roaring Brook Press, part of Holtzbrinck Publishers, First Second bridges ages, genres, and countries, bringing graphic novel readers high quality fiction, biographies, personal memoirs, history, visual essays, and comics journalism by both well-known and brand new creators from countries across the globe who have backgrounds in drama, fiction, non-fiction, poetry, and prose. Through this diversity of approach, First Second aims to expose a wider audience to the graphic novel.

First Second launched in U.S. stores and online in May 2006. It is distributed by Macmillan in the rest of the English-speaking world.

It is headed by editorial director Mark Siegel.
