First Coast High School is a 9-12 comprehensive high school located in the Oceanway neighborhood of Jacksonville, Florida. It was opened in 1990, at the same time as its sister school, Mandarin High School, opened up in the southern part of the city.

The school's design is unique for Jacksonville schools (other than Mandarin, which started with an identical layout). The school is built around a large paved courtyard, somewhat reminiscent of Spanish architecture from the colonial period of Latin America. In 2006, an additional wing was added to the school, to accommodate the explosive growth in North Jacksonville.

The current principal is Mr. Tony Bellamy, who replaced Crystal Sissler in June, 2006.

[edit] Improvement

First Coast was one of 16 schools nation-wide selected by the College Board for inclusion in the EXCELerator School Improvement Model program beginning the 2007-2008 school year. The project was funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.

[edit] Competition

  • The team mascot is the Buccaneers. The Buc football program won district championships in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
  • The school's NJROTC classes is award winning.
