[edit] Band history
[edit] Formation
First Aid Kit formed in Fall of 2000, while hometown friends JP Chirdon and Brad Amorosino were attending the University of Connecticut. It was there that they found their crucial beat-man Brian Pile, who originally began with the group on guitar. The band evolved over the next year and a half with a host of acquaintances and friends to keep the ball rolling. A notable change was the addition of James Dennis on guitar, a childhood friend of Brian's, who nimbly acquainted his creative contributions to the band, which was still busy with understanding their approach to the music. The line-up was solidified in Fall of 2002, when Nick Santore filled the void left on the low end. This was after bass player Ben Saperstein's exodus to projects in North Carolina and Philadelphia. The fully realized group became JP, Brad, Brian, James and Nick, all of whom were present on, and crucial to all of First Aid Kit's official releases.
[edit] Tours and Releases
First Aid Kit began playing shows within the MA, CT and NY area before embarking on a tour down the east coast. The band then stretched further into the mid-west and down east coast and southern states, though never making it clear across the country. Among the tours and hospitable shows of their New England home area, First Aid Kit played alongside such bands as Rainer Maria, Engine Down, Q and Not U, Recover, Finch, and Counterfit.
The group's first release was the 11-song CD LP "Frights + Shivers" on start-up Said Sew Recordings in July of 2003 with engineer Greg Giorgio. The final release, also on Said Sew, was the 3-song CD EP "Forgot ID". Despite being a much more abbreviated product, the group concentrated much effort leveraging the lessons learned from previous experimentation, members, and experiences, with three songs tied together by a linear narrative and more focused rhythm and instrumentation, once again recorded with Greg Giorgio.
[edit] So long, farewell
In December of 2004 the group disbanded when James moved out to the opposite coast of San Francisco. The group played their last show on Wed. January 26, 2005 with the band Engine Down and fellow CT group In Pieces. Brad has sinced founded the band Titles, in which he is the primary singer, and continues to play guitar. More info is available at http://www.listentotitles.com. As of 2007, James, JP, Ben and Brian have been collaborating on songs, without any official title or recordings.
