[edit] Overview

The mailing address is Oberlin, Ohio, though the school is located in Henrietta Township (at 10643 Vermilion Road) and serves the townships of Brownhelm, Camden, Florence (in Erie County), Henrietta, and the village of South Amherst.

The school colors are red, white, and black. The mascot is the Falcon. The school is a member of the West Shore Conference.

[edit] Tractor Day

FHS is currently the only school in the world to feature a fully functioning Tractor Day. On this day, the students are allowed to drive their tractors to school and park them in the parking lot. The school holiday promotes being proud of farming and living in a rural area.

[edit] Tractor Day Controversy

Many of the students at Firelands believe that Tractor Day is a disgrace to their school, and makes them look worse than they already do. Last year, some students took it so far as to hijack a bus and drive it around until it crashed. Most of the locals knew why they did it, Tractor Day was destroying their morals, and they finally cracked after they realized the rest of the world thought they were mentally retarded hillbillies. Even the local police took their side on the matter. Eliminating Tractor Day from the school calendar is still under debate by the board.

[edit] School Currency

Firelands High School is the only known school that actually has currency. The students earn the "Falcon Bucks" everyday for completing various tasks. They then can spend this money on the school lunch, bathroom passes, and even better grades. The most common method of obtaining Falcon Bucks is getting good grades. Students with bad grades earn the Falcon Bucks doing other activities, including fast paced slave labor knitting and sewing Firelands High School T-shirts and other various memorabilia.

[edit] Falcon Buck Controversy

Much like every other unique event that makes Firelands High School stand out, there have been many scams and criticisms involving the use of currency in a High School environment. There have been reports of teachers selling Falcon Bucks for real US currency, meaning that students are actually paying for grades and other privileges. Other reports state that teachers have been caught buying drugs off of the students with the schools currency. Skeptics say that the school treats it's students horribly and is forming a monopoly and ripping students, and their parents off of millions of dollars. Reasons such as having to pay for field trips and other school events with Falcon Bucks, support this argument.
