Released to the public on the 4th of July 2007, Mozilla and eBay launched the public version of the Firefox Companion for eBay.[1] The Firefox Companion for eBay is a Firefox extension under the "Firefox Companion" designation. ("Firefox Companion" is a Mozilla's designation for extensions bundled with the Browser.)[2]

As reported Techcrunch, there was a sentiment that "Whilst Mozilla is more than entitled to partner and provide such a service, open source purists may see the deal as Mozilla selling out". [3] However, in the official FAQ, it is mentioned that Mozilla and eBay "...plan on open sourcing as much of the source code we developed under the MPL as possible."[4]
