Fire Chief of Atlanta

The Fire Chief of Atlanta is the top official within the Atlanta Fire Department. Firefighters moved from volunteer to professional in the 1800s in Atlanta and the current chief oversees a force of 1,000 with a budget of $56 million. Some of the previous fire chiefs have been:
- Thomas Haney 1868 (unpaid)
- Matthew Ryan (July 1, 1882 – July 1, 1885) (first paid chief)
- W. R. Joyner (1885 – 1906)
- William B. Cummings (1906 – 1915)
- William B. Cody (1915 – 1929) - Firefighter from 1878 until his death
- John Terrell (1929 – 1933) - Only chief to die in line of duty
- Otho J. Parker (1933 – 1939)
- Charles Crawford Styron (1939 – 1959)
- William H. Hamer (?? – 1988)
- Tom Perrin (1988 – 1990)
- David M. Chamberlin (1990 – 1995)
- Winston Minor (1995 – January 31, 2003)
- Kenneth Allen (interim)
- Dennis L. Rubin (2003 – 2007) left to be fire chief of Washington DC
- Kelvin Chochran (2007 – present) hired from Shreveport, Louisiana
