i find it hysterical that someone would claim that she was the world's leading mezzo and made bumbry and verrett flee to the soprano realm. that is news to all the other mezzos of the era...

I agree. This passage "When Simionato reitred, in 1966, Cossotto became the one and only reigning mezzo-soprano, and even made the other two great rivals from America, Grace Bumbry and Shirley Verrett, flee to the soprano realm." should be removed. There is nothing objective about it... and whatever happened to the great Marilyn Horne? She was surely active in 1966 and even more well known than Cossotto (not meaning to berate the diva, I'm a fan of Cossotto myself). As a matter of fact.. I'm removing that passage above today. Mailyn Horne is not such a good example, because her repertory was quite different from Cossotto's, while Verrett's and especially Bumbry's were nearly identical. AdamChapman 12:47, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

It's not appropriate to say what a "poor soul" was Vinco for being married to her. Neither to attack her character: Her behavior was controversial - she was a charmer socially, but was also self-concerned, and there are many stories and rumors about her.

There are several Italian Jews with similar names, like Cassutto and so on... Moreover, I read once an article where the author mentioned that he invited Cossotto to a "Sedder". So, just for curiosity, was Cossotto of Jewish origin? AdamChapman 12:47, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Callas Vs. Cossotto

It seems that some Callas' fans are insisting on presenting only one side of this story. Look, I'm a Callas fan myself, yet the subject is debatable: Not everyone will agree that Cossotto tried to hurt Callas, and some even suggest that the recordings of the live performances confirm the opposite. I'll correct the article so it will show the two sides of this story, and hope that there's no objection. AdamChapman 12:38, 22 July 2007 (UTC)
