[edit] Family
In early 2000, Fiona Pender's father, Sean Pender, was found dead in his home from an apparent suicide. It was the third tragedy to strike the family after Fiona's disappearance 4 years prior and the loss of a son due to a traffic accident.[3] Fiona's mother Josephine Pender and remaining son John are still active in their search for information.
[edit] Cross in Slieve Bloom Mountains
In May 2008, a makeshift cross bearing the name "Fiona" was discovered in the Slieve Bloom mountains in County Laois/County Offaly. Gardaí have found no evidence of human remains. [4] Speculation has since surfaced that the cross was a hoax, however the Pender family and Gardaí have appealed for any information.[5]
