Fiona Mackenzie from Dingwall, Ross-shire, won the An Comunn Gaidhealach Gold Medal in 2005. She is one of the leading Gaelic singers in Scotland and has toured and performed throughout the UK, Europe and North America.

In 2004 Fiona was voted the BBC Scotland Traditional Music Personality of the Year at the Scottish Trad Music Awards. She was also nominated as Gaelic Singer of the Year in both 2005 and 2006.

She currently works for the Highland Council as the Mairi Mhor Gaelic Song Fellow, promoting Gaelic song and language throughout the communities of the north of Scotland. As part of her role she organises and manages the young, all girl Gaelic harmony group "Fionnar" who have competed successfully at the Pan Celtic Festival and the Welsh International Eisteddfod.

Her recordings to date include, "Duan Nollaig" (2007) on Greentrax , "Orain nan Rosach" (2006), "Seinn o ho ro Seinn" (2003) and "Astair" (2000).

She features on Scottish television and radio.

Fiona also hosts the "Kitchen Ceilidh" on Scottish Internet Radio.


Her most recent recording, Duan Nollaig has received rave reviews including Scotland on Sunday newspaper. It is a collection of 35 Gaelic Christmas songs and carols and was produced by well known music theatre director and composer, Irvin Duguid. Fiona is currently working on a book of the Songs and Carols which will be available before Christmas 2008.

Fiona has also been selected to be one of the Scottish representatives in the Nòs Ùr song competition. Nòs Ùr (meaning ‘new style’ in Scottish Gaelic) is a new song competition in the Celtic and Scots languages which will act as a regional final (21 June 2008, Inverness) for the pan-European minority languages song competition – Liet Lavlut, held on 18 October 2008 in Lulea, Sweden
