Theory of Religious Economy

Objective: I propose to edit the Wikipedia articlie of the Theory of Religious Economy. I would like to concentrate on "competition" in the religious economy. Today, you can see more and more religions developing and competing against eachother in each culture.

Interest: This is interesting to me because many deviant acts arise from religions such as persecution. I agree that the Rational Choice Theory can be related to religious economy in that people choose the religion that they think will benefit them the most. But I'm interested in reporting on why people choose the religions where they, in turn, might be punished with violence? Religion gives people hope to be accepted by society and to lead a prosperous life.

Background reading: I will read the textbook, articles, scholarly journals from Ohio Libraries and books. I have already found a great reference that is a book entitled, "The Sociology of Religious Movements." I want to concentrate on the link of why people chose their religion and why there is conflict between religions. The religious economy is a large part of society that suggests norms for people to follow.

General Plan: My general plan is to compare religions around the world to see the social actions of people and why they chose their religion. Also, I would like to compare the religions to see which ones conflict more than others. I would like to edit the already existing Wikipedia page to concentrate more on the relation of the social aspect of religion, conflict of religions, and why people choose their religion. Some of the topics of the article have a lot of potential, but I think I can add more to each of them to make them more in depth and informational by bringing strong references and creative links to the information that I find.

Collaborators: I will be working on my own in this project.
