[edit] 2005 edit

Sorry, but as an author of two publications, isn't Madden a noteworthy subject? I can't help but feel continually victimised as a result of the John Fullerton debacle. I don't see the relation that has been claimed to exist between this article and that.--Johnfullerton 00:10, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Learn. Are you incapable of writing an article with neutral point of view? Here are the problems:
Madden is the author of The History of Ireland
Fine, verifiable: see [1]
He has also published Seeking the Kingdom, a history of St. Columb's College.
Less good, because it's probably some internal publication and non-notable.
The pupils affectionately refer to him as "Mad-Dawg".
Original research, and even if true, totally unencyclopedic.
Madden is an experienced...
Wikipedia:Avoid peacock terms We're all experienced in one way or another.
As a historian
He's not, he's a schooleatcher; Historian is generally reseerved as term for high-level university academics in the fiel of history.
He is essential reading
Who says? Tearlach 00:48, 15 December 2005 (UTC)
  • Hodder and Stoughton: Madden is "[e]ssential reading for anyone wanting to understand the current situation in Ireland", and he "is an experienced teacher and CCEA examiner".
We may all be experienced in some way or another, but we're not all experienced teachers or CCEA examiners. --Johnfullerton 11:21, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

I have cleaned up this page, it should no longer be nominated for speedy deletion. I understand that some people feel that johnfullerton is posting nonsense about teachers however Finbar Madden clearly meets the criteria for inclusion.

I agree with all your points Tearlach except for the one about Mr. Madden being a historian. A definition of a Historian, taken from this site, states:

"A historian is a person who studies history. The term is often reserved for people whose work is recognized in academia, particularly those who have acquired graduate degrees in the discipline"

As Mr Madden constantly studies and teaches History, has had his work published and has a BA hons Degree from Queens University Belfast In History. He clearly meets the definition of a historian on this site whatever your own opinion of a historian is.

May i refer you to Wikipedia:Criteria for inclusion of biographies[2]

It says one of the criteria for inclusion is:

  • Published authors, editors, and photographers who have written books with an audience of 5,000 or more or in periodicals with a circulation of 5,000 or more.

Clearly Finbar Madden fufills this criteria. A quick search on amazon will show you he has sold considerbly more than 5000 copies of three his books on this site alone. For this reason and after cleaning up the page i strongly recommend it is not deleted. N mcdermott 04:27, 15 December 2005 (UTC)

Please stop putting this page up for deletion just because you have a vendetta against johnfullerton
