Fingernails is the first album released by Children of the Anachronistic Dynasty. It was released in 1986. Although, at the time, the band went nearly unnoticed, interest in Children of the Anachronistic Dynasty and TexA.N.S., which Children of the Anachronistic Dynasty had evolved from, increased after the band's singer, Maynard James Keenan, became famous as the lead singer of Tool and A Perfect Circle.
A later version of the third track, "Burn About Out", performed on Peace Day, contains lyrics and a nearly-identical melody from what would be the 1993 single "Sober" by Tool. However, the two versions are in no way related except for the title; the Sober version was recorded live on April 17, 1987.
Keenan later said in a June 1997 interview that the album "sucks"[2] and that he refused to re-publish the album.

[edit] Recording
The demo was conceived and had most of its songs written by March 1986. After this, Keenan and Kevin Horning recorded the songs in Keenan's living room in Grand Rapids, Michigan, using a drum machine on some tracks. Following the completion and release of this demo, three more members were recruited so that the band could perform live. These members were: Todd Horning, Kevin's brother (second guitar), Stan Henderson (bass guitar, occasional vocals), and Tom Geluso (drums).
Later, the band performed live at the Peace Day event on April 17, 1987 (Keenan's 23rd birthday). This performance was videotaped and sold as a VHS tape. Copies of the tape are now very valuable and usually sell on eBay for upwards of $100.
